Do you think this build would play Minecraft well at 720p?

I'm trying to get my nephew into the pc master race before he's too old and dedicated to consoles. His favourite game is Minecraft on the Xbox360 (he's 8). He has a 50 inch plasma tv on his wall that only outputs 720p.

 

Os will be Win7.

IMO the 860K is the better and newer chip than the FX 4 core

Perhaps a Pentium (not the G3258) would be better if you can afford one.

Awesome as well. I will consider that as well. This thing would perform significantly better than an APU build right? He would do the odd TF2 or FPS in a few years when he's old enough to handle the language that occurs in those kinds of games.

No APU will match it, and with APU you need faster and more expensive RAM.

you *might* want to consider dropping in a Z97 motherboard to have better means of overclocking the living hell out of that little pentium.

 

for minecraft, really... once you have the basic stuff (a decent gpu and plenty of ram) its just a matter of getting the single core performance as high as you possibly can.

 

also should add, while intel integrated graphics are more than sufficient to run minecraft, minecraft (and other similarly coded games) have a history of being very tempramental on integrated graphics, and i'm not gonna put any money on amd's APUs doing any better.

Not old enough? When I was 4 I was given my Mum's old 386 with its ribbon printer, joystick and game pad+an 85MB HDD (it was running Windows 3.1).
