What do you guys think of my budget build so far?

PaulKolby

So, I have a Lenovo y50 with an 860m and for me it's fine for most games at 1080p like rocket league or battlefield, and so on but I want to build a desktop to outperform it graphically for super cheap, so I just wanted to show you guy and see what you think of my cheap build.

Intel q6700 $25 - it performs the same as a q6600 but uses 40 watts less

Gigabyte Motherboard $25 - came with a core 2 duo for $25 and it's the same motherboard Linus had in first scrapyard wars

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit $30 - bought a computer at a garage sale for $30 and came with Windows 8 pro 64 bit and I updated it

Graphics card - i plan to get a pascal gpu

Case - still need one

PSU - still need one

Storage - currently have a 200gb hard drive I plan to get a 1tb and an ssd

So what do u guys think of my build so far?

My Cheap But Good Rig: I7-3770s, Intel Motherboard (actually made by intel), 16gb DDR3, Nvidia Gtx 1070, 250gb Samsung 850 EVO SSD, 750gb HDD, Evga 500 BR power supply

It's definitely interesting, not a bad system so long as you overclock the CPU and get a good GPU. Don't buy a high end SSD though, SATA II will bottleneck it anyways. A BX100 or MX200 would be fine.

that q6700 is gonna bottleneck your gpu...

If I overclock the cup to at least 3 ghz I really don't think it will bottleneck that bad, cause I mean it's running at 2.6 ghz now and I think it won't bottleneck that bad cause my friend has a slightly worse phenom that's not overclocked and it doesn't really bottleneck his 960 and I'm better off doing this then a pentimento aniversary edition and this is supposed to be a budget build

Isn't pascal coming out in only like 2-3 months I can wait

its better than the pentium, if you are trying to spend basically no money then yes its probably all you will get, but personally I would not be happy

first quarter of 2016 I beleive

Pascal isn't expected until next year.

Pascal could be another 6-12 months away, the next couple of months is very very optimistic. And you will have bottlenecks from that CPU/MB, putting such old hardware with new hardware will not do your performance any justice.

If you want to keep the old CPU/MB then go for a 700 series card or the AMD equivalent. The 960 isn't a bad card in any way shape or form but comparing it to Pascal is quite stupid in terms of how the card will perform.

CPU: i7 8700k   Motherboard: Asus Maximus Hero  RAM: 16GB @ 3600Mhz  GPU: MSI 980Ti 6G  Case: Fractal Design R5 (4 Intakes/3Exhausts)  Storage: Crucial BX100 SSD, Samsung 850 & Seagate 2TB HDD  PSU: Seasonic M12II Evo '850W'  CPU Cooling: Corsair H110i GT

It's not just clock speed that determines the performance of a CPU, 960 might be fine but any higher has a good chance of causing a bottleneck on the CPU. If this is a budget build, there really is no point in waiting for Pascal because it's just going to start out more expensive anyway. The easiest GPU to find for cheap that will still preform is probably something like a 280X.

well a q6700 performs the same as a q8300 maybe if i overclocked to like 3.4ghz that would make my gpu bottleneck that badly, iam proabably just going to get a 970 and in the future sli and upgrade cpu and so on
