should my storage server be connected to the internet

dark_xzyph3r

As the title says, should I connect it to the internet? I am running Windows Server 2012 R2 as a media encoder and transcoder as well as some light folding which I'll prolly stop and just use my main rig. But would there be any reason to connect it to the internet? I am currently using one of the 2 gigabit Intel NICs as a private network just for my computer and the other for the rest of the network.

Hey there :)

The server should be connected to the network from which you'd like to access it. If you don't need access to the server outside of your internal network, you don't have to connect it to the internet. You can have it connected only to your internal network or simply just ot another device. :)
What are you aiming to do with it?
