I just watched 'The Martian' movie yesterday and now this release... yeah, outer space is awesome!

 

I read the book prior to watching the movie. Kinda disappointing because it didn't felt like it was a survival movie. Felt like as if he was on a vacation for some reason. If only the mood of the movie and the soundstracks are darker and has a more serious kind of feeling. Still, nothing tops off interstellar when it comes to sci-fi.

The reason why you can't see stars in shots of the moon(where space is in view) is because the exposure has to be so low. The moon isn't some magical thing that takes stars out of view. The astronauts could see stars I'm sure, but the moon would be too bright in the photos.

 

After looking at the full moon through the universities 25.4cm telescope I couldn't see much of anything other than a great big pink spot afterwards.  I'd suspect that the astronauts could see stars in every direction where the moon, sun and earth isn't present.  It's a good question to ask @ChrisHadfield the next time he's around :)

This is awesome, but how did they store these images in the 70s?

 

Just a wild guess, but I imagine these are from high quality specialized film, recently (or not) developed into giantsized photos, scanned at an extremely high DPI into digital form.

CPU = A10 6800K (@4.3Ghz) / GPU = HD 8670D (@844mhz/ram@1866mhz) - 2016 ≠ Dual Cores - why learn Linux ? - OLD intel x4 cpu (Q6600) + amd HD 7950 - this is what i think on watts x dollar cost - CPU "bottlenecks" only start to show "at the super high end cards" (like the 390) if you have a 4 cores CPU
