GTX 980 vs 980M

@nicklmg Are videos on Youtube going to be uploaded 2 weeks after vessel. Because thats whats happeneing now. Or are you going to upload 2 videos a day?

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

So anyone know what the 980m compares to the desktop equivalent?

...makes gaming laptops the weapon of choise only for folks, who lack the space for two discrete machines [..] and are able to afford the convinience tax...

Thanks for that. It has to be said, that you can in (in most cases) build a decent gaming desktop and buy a laptop for the price of a gaming laptop with a high performance gpu.

I compared a friends 980m to my old 280X. Although it wasn't really apples to apples (AMD vs Nvidia and different CPUs), the performance was similar. So I would say the 980M is somewhere between the 960 and 970 on the Nvidia side.

Some are going up 2 weeks later due to PAX & simultaneous releases on both channels. When something is released on both channels at the same time, another video has to be delayed to keep with the normal schedule.

Why are they (Nvidia) paying so much attention to mobile graphics chips? Its not even like the market is substantially bigger... Yes, more people buy notebooks, but how many of them even have a GTX 970M inside?

Those things run off battery, so stop faffing and give us more POWER on the desktop where the extra power draw doesn't matter.

Most of the time, a mobile gpu will be a model below on the desktop side, so GTX 980M =/= GTX980, but more of what you've mentioned, between a GTX 960 and GTX 970.

I'm not particularly sensitive to artifacting on screen, but the shizz around Linus's (typically) rapid hands gestures really distracted me in this video :(

Don't know if I'm just having a sensitive day, it was a bad render or what, but thought I'd mention.

Do really like the background colour though, so please don't take that away, I'd rather have my cake and eat thanks :)

Does the M in 980M stand for "Moderately good"? Because it should.

:-)

I think it's actually "Mediocre"  :P

I kid, I kid. It's ok for mobile.

Well, I guess you could say it's a mediocre version of the GTX 980.

The biggest  BURNOUT  fanboy on this forum.

And probably the world.
