Is there any weapon customization in MGS5 TPP

I remember weapon customization being shown off in MGS5 before release but I can't find it in game.

Is there any way to add attachments to guns. For example, could I add a silencer to a gun that doesn't have one by default

Almost every weapon or item has a progressive development tree, through which certain guns may have attachments like silencers, barrels, and sights attached to them.

It isn't universal, however, and I suppose it isn't what people are used to in games like Battlefield or Call of Duty.

 

EDIT: Once you extract and employ a certain enemy soldier with special skills, the ability to fully customize every firearm to the most possible extent is unlocked.
