Is the 4690k cpu compatible with this motherboard? PCPartPicker says otherwise.

You may need a BIOS update to use a Haswell Refresh CPU(in this case, 4690K) on a B85 board.

Seems pointless to get a B85 board and have a unlocked CPU....might as well get a Xeon or a locked i5.

Yes. For the future, I recommend http://PcPartPicker.com. It will tell you if hardware is compatible and much more.

Edit: I just read the top replies, at time of posting those replies were not there.

Yes it is compatible but I would not recommend it. I would get a H97 board at the least, preferably a Z97 board.

Get a Z97 motherboard so that you will be able to overclock that processor now or in the future when you would want to.

Don't get a 4690k unless it's worth a z97 motherboard so you can get nice overclocks. If you aren't overclocking get a i5-4460 and a h81 h87 or h97 mobo. The bios more than likely won't need updated because the factory before sending out a mobo updates it to the latest bios and it's been quite a long time so in the near impossible chance I wouldn't know what to do, you could ask though.

go get something like 4460 or 4590. it's pointless to get an unlocked cpu (K-series) with that mobo. But if you want to overclock you have to get a Z series mobo
