Connecting PS2 to monitor

TheKDub

So I've got some PS2 games that I'd like to be able to play again and possibly finish, and don't have a TV that I can use to play them on, so I've been looking to see if there is a way I can connect it to one of my monitors.

I'm thinking some sort of RCA to VGA adapter or something of the sort would work, though the only issue is finding a decent adapter that won't cause any issues. (I already have an adapter I can use for adapting the RCA Audio to 3.5mm so I can hook it up to my speakers)

Anyone know of a good way to do this? (I'd like to spend less than $10 USD on an adapter if possible)

The PS1/2/3 all use the same RCA/Component cable.  Best method is a converter box which is like 30 bucks.  Though that requires an HDMI and the cord for it too.  Does your monitor support SVideo?

Nope.

One of em supports VGA and DVI, and the other supports VGA, DVI, and HDMI.

then good luck. A converter for svid to HDMI is expensive because you need a converter so they're around $30+

It's not svideo, it's RCA.

As I said the RCA to VGA or whatever = a no go.  People have tried that, and it says they don't work.  Your only real option then is to use a 30 dollar converter box, the RCA cable for the PS2, and an HDMI.

Didn't say it had to be a straight up cable or anything, a converter would be perfectly fine as well.

Looks like this should work. http://www.amazon.com/Etekcity%C2%AE-Composite-Converter-Upscaler-High-definition/dp/B00MNFWYBI/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1437175025&sr=8-8&keywords=component+to+hdmi&pebp=1437175035839&perid=1TMVRFPGP0WC2K8ZVQN7 (The first link you posted)

It's actually possible to hook a ps2 up to some monitors using a passive component video to vga cable like this one. The monitor must support both sync on green through vga and 15khz signal timings.

I've done it before with a ps2 slim and an Asus VE228H from 2010. Another one I had from 2012 did not support sync on green resulting the only color in the image being green.

They would look horrid on a monitor.

Here's a FREE solution.

Go to Craig'slist and I'm willing to bet that there are a shitload of people who are giving away working CRT tvs that will work beautifully with the PS2.

I'd rather not have a giant ass CRT sitting on my desk where there wouldn't be room for it anyways.

I think I'll just go for trying to emulate them then..

Buy this stuff.

Converter:

http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-Resolution-Composite-S-Video-Converter/dp/B00M4JY722/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1438061664&sr=8-7&keywords=s-video+to+vga

Cable:

http://www.amazon.com/PS3-S-Video-Cable-Playstation-3/dp/B000N5JS5A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1438061813&sr=8-2&keywords=Sony+PS3+S-Video+cable

Yes it says PS3. It will work on PS1, 2, or 3. Don't use the pack-in composite cable. Get this S-video cable instead. Trust me. The image quality is far superior, and you will definitely want it on a monitor. Composite looks bad enough on an old CRT TV. It looks way worse on a high res monitor.
