Download speed of only 80kbps?

IMPERIUS

Hi!

I'm currently downloading gta 5 with only 80kbps. My normal speeds are 320kbps. I know that isn't much but it can't use only 1/3 of my available speeds. I'm not doing anything while the game is downloading.

Why is that? Where is the problem? Am I or the R* servers so shitty? What can I do?

Thanks!

I actually had the same problem when downloading GTA V at launch so I would say it's their servers

No

for example;

10kB/s = 80kbps

The B/b is the difference between bits(1) and bytes(8).

----

But this will more than likely be a R* issue.

I've been having roughly the same issue with steam lately as well. Steam has been downloading at as low as 32KB/s (but usually around 110KB/s) even though speedtest tells me I get 28Mb/s down.

Are you downloading from R* Warehouse or Steam?
If Steam try to change download server location if the former, can't really suggest anything I got my copy through there and the speeds were abysmal (I generally get 18MB/s on Steam)

Well please give me that 300mbps.

Because we talk about 37.5MB/s then ;)

Here you go, not exactly 300, it's mostly from 250 ~ 300, depending on what day. My fastest download speed was 31 MB/s on Torrent, Steam never goes above 25 MB/s.

If you're downloading using GTA launcher then your ISP can be throttling it. My ISP did for a while until I rang up my ISP and they removed the throttle.

I think Rockstar use some kind of P2P service to distribute it. Takes load off their servers.

System Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X

GPU: Radeon RX 7900 XT

RAM: 32GB 3600MHz

MB: Gigabyte  B550 Gaming X- RGB Disabled

PSU: Corsair RM850x 80 Plus Gold

Case: BeQuiet! Silent Base 801 Black

Cooler: Noctua NH-DH15

You mean the launcher that i got from the R* version of the game, right? Yes, I do use that one.

Also, all my other downloads were maxing out their speeds, even when I was simultaneously downloading watch dogs on uplay and stopped gta for a minute it maxed out. Why/ could he even block one service?

Because ISP's.

I remember a while back some ISP's used to block akamai (I know BSkyB used to) and would heavily throttle download speeds/connection to the server. Mine used to time out after a while.

It might be the case, but again I could be entirely wrong. Seems likely however.
