Is Skylake-E is gonna be 2011-v3 compatible?

Go to solution Solved by LasersPewPew,

Doesn't Intel release the "-e" variation of the previous architecture along side with the new mainstream architecture?

Sandybridge-e came out when Ivybrige came out

Ivybridge-e came out when Haswell came out

Haswell-e came out recently when Broadwell is launching

so if Intel continues its current trend we still haven't seen Broadwell-e, so Skylake-e would most likely not be Socket compatible with Socket 2011-3. Broadwell-e is rumored for 2016. So Skylake-e might not be till 2017? UNless they are scrapping broadwell-e?

or there will be 2011-v4 motherboards?

Thank you!

No one knows, but I doubt Intel will make Skylake-E compatible with the current X99 motherboards.

Thank you!

they'll most likely be 2011-3 sockets

making a new socket would probably ruin the sales for the old 2011-3 mobos

it will last a few gen before it get replaced with X1099

So, it is unknown? I need an emergency upgrade and I'm looking  at Skylake. But it's not here yet. If Skylake-E will be 2011-v3 compatible then I'll go for 2011v3 motherboard and i7 5820k and I'll switch to i7 7960x when its gonna be available. But if there is gonna be 2011v4 then I'll better go for something else.

Just don't want to spend 2k on CPU within 1 year.
