Hyper 212 Evo cooling problems

JoshTheTrix

I just put a 212 evo in my rig to cool my 7850k which replaced a cooler master tx3 evo. According to speccy im idling at around 50 to 70 degrees, and according to amd over drive my thermal margin fluxes from 45-68 degrees. These temperatures are not too different from my tx3 which doesnt make sense to me. Is there something that i could do to bring my idle temperatures way down, or is speccy not giving me accurate readings. I really want to overclock but at these current temperatures it doesnt seem safe, because with my tx3 while playing theif my cpu would top out at 100 degrees according to speccy.I tried varying amounts of thermal grease as well but nothing changes. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

you probably didn't apply the thermal paste very well

or you didn't tighten down the cooler enough

I put a long straight line of thermal paste down the center of the cpu. Not really sure how the amd heat spreaders work, because the grain of rice technique didnt work well in the past with my tx3 which made good contact with the cpu. the 212 on the other hand was able to be wiggled/slide around the cpu after i mounted and tightened it down. I wasn't sure how to tighten it anymore, except for a little thumb screw on the mount the sits under the heat sink, which helped a little. Should i try a reinstall, if so, is there a better way to tighten it down

should be paper thin amount spread over the surface of the cpu....I generally use a little piece of cardboard to spread it or something like that

as for the 212 ...you tighten it down evenly on each side ...in a criss cross manner

few turns on one side..then a few turns on the one across from it...and keep doing that till its full tightened

as for your question about the cooler moving. Mine does that also and my friends also does that so I guess it's normal. Just try not to move it too much
