Sharp Aquos 70 inch HDMI Not Working

Russell450

Hi guys,

The HDMI Ports on my Sharp Aquos 70 inch TV (model number: LC-70LE633U) are not working. The ports have not been working since a thunderstorm. When the thunder struck, my DirecTV Set Top Box got fried, my TVs HDMI system board (I think) went (got fried) with the set top box, connected to the TV with HDMI. What a coincidence, right? That is why I think the system board for the HDMI Ports is fried. But I was wanting your guys' opinion, and what you guys think the price would be for the system board, if that is even it. Along with that, I was also wondering if someone would know how to replace the System Board for the HDMI Ports. Along with that, I would like to note that the TV takes longer than usual to power on, probably about 45 seconds, other than the usual 10-15 seconds. The TV still powers on and all the other inputs work other than HDMI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You can get a service manual for the model to see how to replace damaged components (together with the part numbers for those things).

I am not sure about Sharp, but service manuals can usually be bought from the maker. You can check through their Parts & Accessories toll-free line.

What's generally not covered in a service manual is the troubleshooting side of things. Do you get any LED flashing or any sort of message when turning on the TV? Sometimes errors can only be seen through the service menu.

No, oddly enough the TV functions normally and does not display a special message, but the HDMI ports don't work. I believe lightning struck near the DirecTV switch and my DSL NID (my modem, router, and landline phone got fried too), and entered through the coax cables and through the system board of the DirecTV Receiver, through the HDMI Ports and fried the HDMI Board (seperate from the central motherboard of the. TV )

We actually do. But, ironically, we were actually getting one installed on the other side of our house (the side with the NID), but that was scheduled a week late, unfortunately.

We do actually have a power bar, of which I assume you are thinking of a surge protector, but we believe that the reason our Directv and HDMI outputs are fried is that the "shock" came through the coaxial cables, which traveled through the HDMI outputs too. I could not use the coaxial portion of the surge protector because we have the SWiM system with DirecTV.

Do you have whole house surge protection?

No, however, I was hoping to fix my HDMI issue right now.
