Apple EarPods

My review of Apple's EarPods

I'm gonna start off this review by saying that I predominately use Astro A40s to listen to audio of everything including game audio, music, movies and just videos from YouTube. I am used to a fairly decent sound. I also used to use Sennheiser headphones to listen to music because of their dynamic sounding cans so I was used to nice audio. I have used earbuds and earphones before and I haven't really had the most amazing experience with them because they were either uncomfortable, didn't sound great or even both and so was sceptical about trying out a pair of earphones that go for around £25 in the Apple Store!

Now, I am currently 15 and walk home from school everyday which is about a mile journey and it takes me around half an hour to do so. During this time I usually listen to music, most people do nowadays. I listen to a lot of EDM and drum+bass so I was testing the bass a little bit. I'll say now that my taste in music isn't the best but I like to switch things up with some older rock, newer pop and rap. On my Astros these tracks sound really good with nice bass and decent highs but mids are a tad faded.

So for the first tests I used the earphones indoors with my Nexus 4 with some Hoodie Allen and Virtual Riot and I was blown back by the quality of the EarPods because the bass was surprisingly prominent for a pear of earphones. Then the dynamic range of sounds with highs and mids were well represented and the dis were much clearer than on my Astros. For the next test I did the same thing but outside. They do a surprisingly good job at cancelling out noise and sounded better than any earphones/earbuds that I had used outside and had the convenience over headphones by obviously being smaller and being able to route the cable down my shirt and into my pocket.

Next I decided to with things u a little bit by plugging them into the headphone out port on my Astro A40 Mixamp. Now, although the 7.1 surround wasn't there the sound was not bad at all and would say that this style of combination over a cheaper Turtle Beach pair really do make the cut. The only thing I would complain about is the lack of microphone but since I generally use an Audio Technica AT2020 even when I have my Astros in then I wouldn't complain. I now use these on my recently purchased MacBook and even use them in school when connecting to the school computers and the school iPads and are the most versatile set of earphones that I have ever used. Overall, top quality and you can pick them up for around £10 on eBay or Amazon now and definitely worth that!

Yea, they're also pretty durable (in terms of the earbud shell and mic+buttons) and you also get an excellent 1 year warranty with them. Apple will usually replace them if you have any problems with them.

I actually prefer them over my G230 headset, the overall sound is a hell of a lot better with the earpods.

Interesting review, I agree that for a super tight budget they make a good buy, but the darn things are so uncomfortable for me at least that I can't stand em. But, to get a more comfortable pair of earbuds it'd cost me about $70 so theres that. For anything less than that, they're pretty damn good.

My only issue with them is the fragile cable and extreme sound bleed. Not bad, just not my goto for cheap earphones

This ^

The benefit of apple over a company like Marley or klipsch is that you can literally walk in and get a replacememt.
