Dell U2414H vs. U2715H

Ladies, Gentlemen and / or other assorted Genders of the LTT Forums, I would like to propose a question to you. No I am not asking you to marry me, my apologies. No I happen to have a question relating to PC Displays (or Monitors depending on where you're from).

If you would be so kind as to let me explain the story first:

My friend and I are currently looking to upgrade our #PCMasterRace machines. Well...technically he already did and is just looking for a monitor and I'm the only one who still needs to upgrade. However, we are currently looking at a couple of new Displays (Monitors) for our machines and we were wondering a couple of things. First off let me introduce our candidates.

First up is the Dell U2414H, a 23,8 inch, 16 by 9, Full HD (1920x1080), AH-IPS, LED screen that is boasting an 8ms response time and a 60Hz refresh rate. Great viewing angles, high contrast, etc. And all of this can be yours (or ours) for a mere € 214.40 ($240.62 USD) including shipping.

However, the U2414HH is competing with it's bigger brother the U2715H, a 27 inch, 16 by 9, 1440p (2560x1440), IPS, LED screen that nearly has the same specs as it's little brother, how ever it's response times are just a tad faster at 6ms compared to the 8ms on the 2414. This big boy how ever will set you (or us) back a whopping € 482,95 ($542.02 USD) including shipping.

Oh and both monitors also have things like DisplayPort daisy-chaining and some other shenanigans like that that, realistically we don't care about. The main difference between these two bad boys being the size difference (that's what she said), the resolution and the price.

Now my question to you wonderful and lovely people is as follows: Are those 3 inches of space and is are those extra pixels that 1440p boasts worth roughly 270 euro's (or 303 USD)? Is 1440p that much of an upgrade compared to 1080 and are those 3 inches worth that much (she said yes :( )?

Especially my friend is doubting this decision. I myself have kind of settled for the 2414 because it is so much cheaper and you can get two for the price of the 2715. How ever I'm curious as to the insight of the mighty and powerful #LTTForumzz1337.

Let me know fols, keen to pick your brains about this...well not literally of course I mean it's not like I'm a zombie...right? .......RIGHT?

-snip-

Just get two of the U2414H's. One 27" is fine but I'd perfer two 24 over one 27 any day.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

s 1440p that much of an upgrade compared to 1080 and are those 3 inches worth that much (she said yes :( )?

yes, its almost twice the number of pixels

1920x1080 = 2.1mp = 91ppi at 24"

2560x1440 = 3.7mp = 109ppi at 27"

Hmm that's what I was thinking too. I love having an extra monitor to have space for other activities besides games

Dell UltraSharp U2515H

25"

2560x1440

That would be a in between solution, how ever that bad boy already costs € 317.81 ($ 356.79) including shipping. Which i.m.h.o is still quite a lot of money just for 1440p and a couple of inches.

2560x1440 = 3.7mp = 109ppi at 27"

-snip-

Oke so there's almost a 20ppi difference there. But still is that worth 270 euro's, or if you compare it to the U2515H: 103 euro's? I mean do you really notice it THAT much when using your computer for everyday tasks?

EDIT:

Just remembered reading somewhere that quotes don't trigger updates, not sure if that's still a thing but anyways: @ShadowCaptain @MrSuperb @dadasmithywinkle (and also @coen113 , check the comment from mrsuperb and my response to it ;)

No problem man :)

So if I read your post correct you're saying 'ditch them 23.8 inches, them be for console peasants BLEGH and get the, #PCMasterRace1337 25 inch 1440p goodness'?

But is it worth the extra 103 euro's compared to the 23.8" non 1440 IPS (U2414H)?

Only you can decide that. I think it is, its twice the pixels

True, but I'm looking for other people's opinions :)

Hmm, gonna need a hard long (that's what she said) think about it (not what she said).

Do you have a specific reason as to why you sold the 2414H and got a 2715H instead? (@Pollux113)

It has bigger screen and resolution which I was looking for.

U2414H is still good but after a period of time using I found out that it was a little small for me. I could go for triple screens but it will take a lot of spaces on my desk.

Also the resolution problem is fixed on U2715H (with U2414H it was detected as an Ultra HDTV - http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/t/19542085). The color problem is fixed with the latest NVDIA driver but it is still being called UHDTV :D
