How to connect LED strips without soldering?

legend8887

I doubt I would be good at it and I don't want to try it out for the first time on my LED strips. So what can I use to connect them?

I have these: http://amzn.to/1EWEnE3

As long as there is contact between the wires in the strip and a power source, you can tape them together ...

If it's safe however I wouldn't know.

Well obviously I would need it to be safe as they would be in my computer along with my $600 graphics card.

In my country we have something we call eletrician's tape, it's a black rubber/plastic tape that is used as an insulator.

To extend them it's best to use click together connectors but as for just starting off an entire strip  you can directly connect it since they have 4 pin connectors already soldered on the ends of the rolls that you can plug into the controller.

Click Connector:

@legend8887 PM me if you still have other problems with it like last time

I have a 4 pin connector on the control box, not the ends of the rolls.

Really I would think a kit would come with it soldered on or clip on ones, but there theses ones will work without any soldering be sure to get the correct male or female end of the connector. (The males shoudl also be able to be converted to female so those would be ideal)

Yes if the roll of LED's already have a power lead like the one before already installed then this will let two female connectors link together, but if the LED's are just a bare roll without any connectors then those would need to be soldered to the LED strip first.

I don't think I understand.  :(

Did you roll of LED strips come with connectors already installed like below, if they did then it should just directly plug into the controller and work, if they didn't and are just a bare roll then those clip on connectors previosuly will work without soldering and let you add new power leads when you cut the roll of LED's into individual strips

Yes, they came exactly like that. There are no pins on either end of the connectors of the roll.

And i assume you can't connect them since there are also no pins on the controlled so those 4 pins you had there will work for perfectly.

There are two cables coming out of the control box. The IR receiver and a connector with 4 pins.

Yep if both the LED strip and the controller have this type of connector you will need those 4 pin connectors to join them together.

I've bought several of the kit that you linked, just pulled one out and...

IMG_20150131_234523729.jpg

EDIT: Just noticed that is the waterproof kit link, my waterproof ones are installed already and a PITA to get at to see if the connectors are the same, but I'm positive it was plug and play.

If you are asking how to connect the DC power into your computer power supply get these two:

http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-Molex-Power-Adapter-SATAPOWADAP/dp/B00009YFTI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422769967&sr=8-1&keywords=molex+adapter

http://www.amazon.com/Fixing-Security-Camera-5-5x2-1mm-Connector/dp/B00EK6NH5A/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1422769998&sr=8-5&keywords=dc+screw

Depin or cut off the red and one of the blacks out of the molex, cut the remaining black and yellow at the Sata end, strip them back a bit and put the yellow into the positive side of the DC terminal and black into the negative side.

Although, I'm pretty sure W-L already linked you a prebuilt adapter in another thread.
