Nintendo Sharing Ad Revenue?

BlueAvian

Seems that Nintendo is looking to possibly loosen the chains, on channel that seem to promote their content but make ad revenue from them. Which has been for a while at least, likely going to Nintendo for the past few months?

Nothing quotable really, also sorry if this is the wrong location for news.

As much as I love Nintendo their policy on YouTube is iffy. Pretty much all game studios allow YouTubers to use their content since they know it can be free advertising and beneficial to their company image. Nintendo, although doing something they have the legal right to do they are going about it wrong, they should be letting people use their content. They could make their own YouTube program but I think it should have been more of a benefits scheme.

For example a YouTuber could join the (theoretical) Nintendo Program to get access to exclusive/official legal audio clips and images, then they could promote their content as "Approved by Nintendo" or "Content provided by Nintendo". YouTubers could then probably pay for the use of the images/audio individually or via subscription or opt to give Nintendo a 1-5% share of the ad revenue, which I think is very reasonable. Its certainly how I would approach it, reward the loyal Nintendo YouTubers with exclusive stuff.

I really hope this program is only short term since I can ultimately see it failing.

I hope this program works but enough for Nintendo to give up due to cost, and not make money.

I like Nintendo very much, a company filled with amazing talented people with amazing passion, but this shows the top executives following the old Japanese business model of doing things, which dictates the importance of full control. And granted in Nintendo history, so many companies tried to take advantage and control of part of Nintendo revenues, which simply reinforces their behavior.

Nintendo executives can't fathom the situation where they release a game, and it bashed on the internet. They want to control the media. This is probably reinforced with the lack success the WiiU has, and not properly understanding why it is not a huge success, or they do understand but they think that this is a factor and wants to block it. Very Japanese business model, like I said. And it doesn't help that Sony, which does things a bit different from the traditional business model popular in Japan (which has worked wonders for Japan, by the way), is not doing any good.

Here is an interesting video from an affected large youTuber

It's a step in the right direction but still extremely outdated. Technically Nintendo are entitled to the money as it is their content and video makers are supposed to get permission from Nintendo before monetizing off footage of their games, but everywhere (literally) else it's just considered free advertising for the games.

It's the same as their policy of 1 account per WiiU and 3DS or something. Just dated.

Actually you can have multiple accounts on the WiiU. I don't have a 3DS to know for sure, definitely on the WiiU, yes.

The problem is that the account is tied to the console. So if I go to my friends place on his WiiU, for example, I can't sign in with my account, and redownload a game I purchased online. My guess is that they don't have the DRM to manage this.

I don't think this is a program that is going to last. Eventually enough people are going to say they don't like this, and the bad publicity might make nintendo change their policy. This program is a step in the right direction, but they need to think about the work that has to go into the production of high quality youtube videos. I also hope that my favorite nintendo youtubers make out okay after this. I haven't seen too much from them recently.

I'm thinking a lot of tubers will continue to do what they've been doing so far. I don't think the program is compulsory however if they're not on it, they risk the videos being taken down or having all ad revenue from that video going to Nintendo.

Yea. It depends on the youtuber. Like the one I posted on top, does soo many Let's play videos (which are very unique. You need there reaction, live chat, and not just him playing the game), that even the fact that Nintendo flag 50 of it's Nintendo related videos as he mentioned, it's only a small fraction of them. So in his case, it's best for him not to join. Especially that Nintendo wants 30% cut even on non Nintendo games, and the Nintendo list of games are small. Smash brother isn't even listed as the "allowed" list. So if you go against it, Nintendo has the right to shut you down completely as per agreement. So it is retarded to join in.

Wait so even non-Nintendo games? Damn. What a stupid program.

On top of that they're actually not allowed to say negative things about the games I believe if they join the program.

Exactly! Totally stupid.

Nintendo is now a MVC on YouTube. YouTube MVC program doesn't manager per video profit of a channel. It is everything or you are not part in.

So, in this regard, Nintendo has no choice to do this in their defense. But yes, stupid. Especially that if you say something that is subjectively not liked by Nintendo (as per the agreement with Nintendo), they can, without warning, shut you down, and you lose your channel, and all your videos. So in other words, your channel can only be pro-Nintendo, super family friendly, ultra safe. and not even wear your cap on the side as that can be seen as something that Nintendo doesn't want to be associated with and shut you down.

Although it's a good thing that Nintendo is at least getting less stingy on Youtube, they're still being pants on head retarded.

As already pointed out tons of times, Youtube is pretty much free exposure and advertisement.

I'm telling the truth! I AM a 12 year old girl!

According to Nintendo, the Creators Program will only accept channels that are 100% dedicated to featuring Nintendo products. If you have videos from a different publisher inside, you have 2 week to remove them once you join in.
