PC for my mom

4muki4

Hello,

I built my own gaming rig in last summer and now I want to build one to my mom for her birthday because her computer is like 10 years old.

I have no idea what pieces i should buy because its going to "normal" computer, it's not for gaming I just want videos wont lagg etc.

few features:

-watching videos 1080p, without lagg

-light gaming (she plays tibia and few facebook games)

-no budget atm but its not a gaming rig

i3 + H81 board + 8gb of ram + decent psu (EVGA B1/Corsair CX are usually the cheapest budget units) + windows + 120/250gb ssd + some case (source 210 on the budget, or something like a Silverstone RVz01).

If she doesn't do any real multi tasking then you could go with a pentium instead of the i3 (and save some money) or if she does some multi tasking then an AMD APU would work.

why an I3 ? the pentium G3258 would be enough

i3 is a waste on LGA1150

Because you don't know what she'll actually be doing and the extra threads of the i3 could prove to be useful. There's a reason why I also said if she isn't multitasking to consider a pentium.

How so?

A Kaveri Apu is way better then what intel has to offer..A i3-4150 is $105, a Pentium K is $60 and a Kavari APU $60

For general use a powerful cpu is more important than a powerful gpu making the i3 the better general use cpu. Same goes for the prentium vs. APU. The only time I would go for an APU over an i3/pentium is if I needed a powerful gpu.

Also, in gaming an i3 is an excellent semi-budget cpu -- an i3 + discrete gpu will outperform an 860k + discrete gpu

An A6-7400K has way more graphical power also it's a quad core unlike and i3.i3's may have hyperthreading but still

Yes, but most people don't need that extra gpu power. Using chrome/facebook/other can run just fine on first gen integrated graphics with no hiccups whatsoever, let alone HD4400. Also, an i3 will outperform even an 860k (in cpu performance), which is the fastest of the FM2+ cpus.

I would go for a 4130 rather than the 4160. While the 4160 is technically better, there is also a chance it won't be compatible with an H81 board, and you won't notice a 100mhz difference anyway. I would also go for a single 8gb stick of ram that way he can upgrade to a second 8gb stick should he need it, and dual channel isn't a huge difference (although, with this setup/use it'll probably never need 16gb of ram, but still -- it's worth thinking about).

I agree completely and used an A8 before getting my 760.
