When I start OBS it seems like my microphone sound goes way way down

I then have to boost the mic by like 4 or 5 times which results in a lot of background noise/hissing and I got the modmic for a reason, to eliminate the sensitive background sounds!

When I'm not streaming and on skype or sound recorder it's fine without boost!

Why the hell did I post this in peripheals?

Are you doing the volume control from OBS or from Windows settings? If you mic is ok for everything else but OBS, I'd rather use built-in boost from it. Another question is, is your game/desktop audio the reason why mic seems to be so low? Because I have to set my game audio to 50% or lower in OBS so mic would be loud enough.

Sometimes when a program uses your mic in Windows 7, windows thinks you are in a communication program like Skype and proceeds to lower the volume of all of the other programs. You can check this setting by right clicking on the volume mixer in the task bar, then clicking on playback devices. After you are in this dialog box click on the tab that says "Communications". Change the setting to "Do Nothing". Try that and see how it works
