Samsung Files Complaint with ITC to Block Nvidia Chips From US Markets

ImNotARobot

Holy shit, and the only one seeking a huge opportunity for AMD? This is the best fixing chance for them to get into mobile! While all the phone manufacturers can't use Qualcomm and hate Nvidia.

Their licensing program did significant damage to their partnerships (made Apple drop Nvidia for Mac Pro and iMac). Now their lawsuit is going to put the icing on the cake. (ref: http://semiaccurate.com/2014/09/04/nvidia-sues-samsung-qualcomm-like-semiaccurate-said/)

If what you say happens, then AMD is the only solution now. Mullins & Intel contra-revenue speak volumes.

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

I wasn't wrong. It's extremely rare that I am. I provided sources as well. Different devs can disagree. Further, we now have confirmed discrepancy from Twitter about he use of the pre-release 1080 driver in AMD's demo despite the release 1080 driver having been out a week prior.

His endless dick jokes and toilet humor are annoying as well.

Even if the courts went solely in the favor of Nvidia, the only precedent that would be set would be that no company would have the right to profit from someone else's IP without permission.  And that, if I have my information right, will be just as bad for Nvidia as for anyone else because nvidia devices use other companies IP just like the rest.

But first they have to show in court that they are in fact infringing someone else IP - and you know that can take years.

To have products banned from a company because one of the suppliers may be, or not, infringing patents... I just find it ridiculous and extremly harmful. You can cripple a competitor of yours when the only thing they do is to purchase supplys from a trustworthy supplier - to pay for the suppliers IP infrigements makes no sense what so ever.

But yes, you are right, this will also affect NVIDIA, like the lawsuit Samsung filed against them... because of manufacturing processes and integrated cicuitry NVIDIA is also facing product bans. They said it was "predictable" Samsung actions, but I don't think they were expecting this.

It would be ridiculous if the product was banned only because a supplier was infringing IP, but we don't know this yet. We still don't know the specifics of the law regarding at what point said IP is infringed when assembling products of this nature.  It could be considered to infringe at the design stage, or at the manufacture stage or maybe not until the SoC is installed onto hardware and fired up.  If the later then samsung could be in trouble, if not qualcomm are in trouble, if neither then Nvidia are in trouble.

I just think this kind of process could have been done in another way, and that's what makes me doubt NVIDIA intentions.

Let's wait and see.

The ITC is currently investigating both claims from nvidia and samsung.  The court cases are still to be scheduled/heard I believe.
