Try to disconnect the power line from the modem that your internet distributor/provider gave you wait 10 sec and reconnect the power line. Sometimes modems have a small hole at the back so with a pen you can make a full modem reset. You can also call your internet distributor/provider to ask them if your internet signal is good or not. After install the router and normally everything is suppose to work  :) !

I did all of it except for that last one since the router i just got is not from my provider. I cant believe i am having trouble setting up this router. Correct me if im wronge but if:

-i plug a ethernet cable from the modem to the router and have another from the router to the modem to the PC then it should work right ? well it does on one router but not the other.

-And i cant find any reason for the wifi signal to be going on and off. Thats is not even considering the fact that even when i am connected long enough then there is still no connection to internet it simply says "limited"

Does this mean i have a deffected router ? Is there any way i can check if my router even works properly ?

So yes normally you connect modem/router this way:

1. Ethernet cable from to moden to the router

2. Ethernet cable from the router (choose ethernet port 1 or 2 or 3 or 4) to your PC

3. If your wifi signal is bad your router can be defective.

What is your router brand and model?

1. I just bought another ethernet cable mainly because the other one ridiculously long but non of the two work with the router im having issues with but they do work with other routers.

2. Done

3. Im starting to consider that possibility and It seems the odd wifi signal going on and off is not something normal at all.

router model:   D-Link DIR-645

Thank again for the help !
