Can someone explain me this Plus 80+ label in PSU's?

Hey folks,

im just want to know what is this 80+ in psu's, the bronze,silver,gold and platinum efficiency,

and about getting more watts of psu for your rig, but your rig only consumes this amount, and doing that is bad,

can someone explain me this,

No, this is the common misconception. This would mean that an 80+ 500W PSU would only be able to supply 400W. This is wrong. It means it needs to draw 500/0.8=625W from the wall to get it's peak wattage.

Don't judge a PSU by it's efficiency. OEM and tier (overall quality) are the most important things. 

 

Anyway, it's basically how much it draws from the wall compared to what it delivers. E.G. A 100% (they don't exist) 1000W PSU will take 1000w from the wall and a 90% would draw 1100W from the wall. The 80+ rating is just a general bracket of efficiency.

I would personally recommend you to get Gold if you can afford it. The price difference can be worth it over Bronze and Silver but it's not too expensive like Platinum.

I have a Bronze PSU and it works just fine. Except that the difference in price I paid for when I bought it is probably already becoming an expense as the bills are more expensive than they would be if I had a more efficient PSU.
