Fans... Worth the price?

Yiz
Go to solution Solved by TheProfosist,

Ok then, I do have a quick question. I did research on my entire build so I'm not fool when it comes to PC and I've built 2 so far... But I am a fool when it comes to fans.

1. What does PMW (I think thats what it's called?) actually mean?

2. If I get 2 other fans that have different RPM for the H100i and do a push pull setup with say 1200rpm fans for pushing and 2000rpm fans for pushing does that put stress on the fans at all?

3. What's the difference between 3 pin and 4 pin fans?

I think thats all I really want to know so if you could answer those questions that'd be great.

Also the people on the forum are outstanding, everyone has been so nice and friendly ever since I started here xD

PWM = pulse width modulation. Its is a better more efficient form of fan control. You can control many more fans off one header, its more power efficient, and wears the fans less.

no but i would suggest getting the same fans all the way around the case for easier control. this shoule be simple since the Air 540 is a great option for 140mm or 120mm.

3 pin is voltage control and 4 pin is PWM control. If the fan your looking at has a PWM option get it. Actually my preferance is to look for PWM first unless you looking for a very specific type of fan.

So I'm getting the Corsair 540 and wanted to know what you guys think of spending around $80 on aftermarket fans. I looked at completed builds of this case and they had the Corsair Air fans with the color rings. Wellllllll.... My case comes with those fans just not colored... And white.... And I want to get the h100i so yeah... I don't know if I want to spend this much on fans when i could just spray paint each of the fans myself (many YouTube videos of this). I'm spending so far 1,300 on this build and want to make this a good looking build. I think that the spray paint would look nice but I do like the red rings of the other corsair fans. So what I'm asking is if you were in my position would you spend that much on fans or spray paint them yourself?

I'm just looking for opinions whether you agree with the idea of paint or buying fans xD Just a quick question is all.

well if in your personal preference is you like the sp/af corsair fans go for it.

stuff like this kinda depends on people though.

example would be my preference.

I'd go with the fans that gives me eye orgasm the most disregarding price and performance.

you could be the same or different.

Ok thanks, I just wanted to know how other people felt on spending money on fans like that, because I want people's balls to implode when they see my build that's why I want the fans xD

You should only buy fans if you need them. If your temps are too high, sure, get them. If your temps are fine and you don't want unnecessary noise, there's not much point spending a lot of money on fans.

I'd buy only a couple of fans and see how the temps are. If needed, I'd get more.

Yup, the corsair 540 comes with three 140mm fans and it's some of their better ones too, so cooling should not be a problem

I didn't like the stock fans, got some Corsair LED 140's for the top, gonna get some of the same 120's for the front.

Sometimes, switching the included case fans for quieter ones is a good and reasonable reason to spend some money. You can always try to lower the RPM and get some rubber gaskets and pins/screws.

For some people it's better to have "worse"(moves less air) quieter fans than loud jet engines, as long as the temps are fine.

It's definitely worth it. You could find better silent led fans with good static pressure / airflows. Besides you can go all bling bling and add more lightning effect with leds. It's all about the looks ^_^

The AF/SP series is great, because your going for a a liquid cooling the SP fans are the way to go. $80 is worth it.

Great is an overstatement for anything other than the loud SP120's high performance. Corsair fans are quite mediocre in general for anything but looks.

I know I'm a bit late, but is there any fans you'd recommend? (Beside Noctuas)

I should note that my build theme is black and red and I want fans that look nicer than the ones that are included but perform well. xD

Also that PCPartPicker link isn't a permanent link, so it's unusable.

I would go with all 140mm PWM fans if you can and pop them all into a splitter so one header can control them. If you rather go 120mm you can but the top rad will be smaller if your using a CLC.

Then more information please im open to change

it all depends on what your looking for in a fan really. At near $20 and up your at the top end so differences are small but important.
