MDPC or Paracord?

BigB72

I got some nice solid colored paracord for a really good price from a nearby army surplus online. im very happy with the look and i didnt even use shrink wrap, just melted the ends  with a lighter nice and good around the metal wire-ends (without obstructing contacts of course). Shrink wrap would probably have a sleeker, more uniform look around the ends if thats what your into though.

I love working with both paracord and MDPC. MDPC is easy to use, professional, good quality and looks nice, but is expensive in my opinion. Buying sleeving for a AX860i case, sleeving every cable, will cost you around 100€ (= 130$), without shipping.

On the other side you have paracord. Paracord looks extremely flush, sleek (but that's my opinion. I think it gives a warmer and more lifelike feeling that polyester MDPC sleeving.), and is extremely cheap in comparison to MDPC. I bought 30 meters (= 100 feet) of professional paracord on ebay, from TheBushCraftStore, for only 10€ ( = 13$), shipping included.

If this is your first time sleeving, I would recommend you to buy paracord.

Why? If you do something wrong, it's no big deal. Mess up with MDPC and it becomes alot more expensive to mess up.

And also, I just like the way how paracord looks ;)!

I've just sleeved my PSU with paracord and was an easy job and cheap! (first time as well!)

If you use non-heatshrink method, it looks very nice and clean.
If you're also wondering.. it took me about 100 feet of paracord to fully individually sleeve my PSU.

I currently use MDPC and it's is great. However.............. there's a new player in the business. He's called Lutro0 and he is the one who basically made the best sleeving guides on Youtube. He now has a store: www.lutro0customs.com. He has sleeving that seems as good as MDPC. Pricing vs quantity is somewhat the same, but shipping could be cheaper from the US. I suggest checking him out.

Without his guides, I don't think sleeving would have evolved as much as it did in the past two years. Before that, people who knew sleeving were reluctant to give that information up. The main difference between his sleeve offerings and MDPC's are color options. Obviously, MDPC is longer in the business so it offers many more colors, most of them aren't just regular colors, but really well thought out colors, that look amazing in person.

Btw, you should take into consideration that some colors differ quite a lot in real life than what it seems in the pictures, often for the good, especially on the more unique colors (ie, aqua marine blue, b-magic blue etc'). Should always check raw images from people's builds before deciding on a color scheme.

I've used mdpc on my latest mod/build just because i prefer plastic style but it doesn't really matter what you use as long as the colour is good and the sleeving is done to a high standard you won't notice the difference unless you look carefully.

Use MDPC if you want your rig to have respect it deserves.

Paracord is for children and is ugly.

one thing is the poly sleeving really adds rigidity and the paracord is softer.

the poly does not snag as easy as paracord. i believe the paracord offers

more color options over poly sleeve. just depends on your taste and view

of the hardware.

Paracord is definitley not for children, nor ugly. Alot of good modders use paracord, just because they like it more than polyester sleeving.

Will 15mm heatshinks work for paracord?

Does MDPC have just a horrible plastic look to it, i like more natural looks.

yes, MDPC gives a somewhat plastic, shiny look when you look closer. From a distance it looks more natural. But paracord just looks fenomenal.

i just did some paracord sleeving on my rig and it was pretty easy and looks nice. your choice may depend on the color of your cables. if you have black cables and want to get them sleeved white, you should not use mdpc since you could still slightly see the cables under the sleeving. paracord also comes in a bigger variety of colors and patterns.

mdpc (if done right and veeeery tight) is the better product to make your cables very stiff so they can be shaped in any form you prefer.

Will 15mm heatshinks work for paracord?

speaking of heatshrink, paracord can be done heatshrinkless without any problems. LutroO has a great tutorial on youtube for that. mdpc can be done heatshrinklessly as well, but its not that easy.

eitherway, you cant make a bad decision here. if using kind of plastic like sleeving, mdpc is probably the best choice.

I like working with MDPC and I really like the look!

I however would like to try using paracord at some point, but probably not in my main gaming rig since I dont know I like the look, kinda looks like shoelace in some pictures. With that said, from what I have heard (think Lutro0 says it in one of his guides) paracord can pretty easily get cought by the pins and pull out a string which messes up the look, also sharp edges in the case could also ruin paracord sleeving. As I said I havent tried paracord so if Im completly wrong someone please correct me! :)

If you have the money I would say MDPC :)

That is why you have to put a little piece of tape around the pins, to prevent them from getting stuck in the paracord ;). And a decent case does not have any sharp edges :p

True and true, it was just a point I think he should be aware of.. :) and a rough nail could pull out a string on paracord too..

Thanks Everybody for the input, and i decided to go with paracord as it is my first go at sleeving and after seeing the price on mdpc as i cant really afford to mess anything up.

I personally used paracord in my build and I love it. Mdpc is also good. Paracord is a bit cheaper but it all comes down to personal preference.
