EdgeOS v1.5.0 Port Forwarding need help.

Keen_Interest

So, I'm trying to set up a minecraft server, and to do that I need to set up a port forward.

This is the point I believe I'm failing. I can't seem to get the forward to work.

If anyone can help, I'd be so grateful.

Extra info, which may help. My network, roughly, modem->Router (EdgeRouter Lite)->switch ( TP-LINK 8-port gigabit, TL-SG108)->wifi broadcaster(uniFi)->computer.

I'm not trying to perform the port forwarding set up on my pc, because I haven't wired it into the network yet.

Thanks.

does this help?

i dont really understand your question.

Sorry, clarification. I don't know how to correctly set up the port forward. That is what I need help with.

I don't know exactly what each field is meant to contain, and for 'Original Port' I don't know how to find the port number of my routers connection to the internet (which is what I THINK its meant to be,).

hm.

destination adress would be your servers ip and destination port 25565.

source port should be 25565 as well and source destination your routers ip (i think).

I just tried that, but I still can't make it work.

Also, there's actually a port forwarding wizard now, so you don't have to use the NAT method.

It has these fields: Original Ports, Protocol, Forward-t-address, Forward-to-port, Description.

I know what Protocol and Description are, or certain. I'm less sure about the other fields?

Original port would be the port that people access from the outside. Internal port is normally the same. Forward to address is the IP of your server. Make sure you have the setting about firewall exception and nat marked in the router (on the wizard page).

To get it to work make sure you forward all the ports that are needed and that the firewall on the server isn't blocking it.

Hey, how would I go about finding the port number of my external IP address?

Hey, how would I go about finding the port number of my external IP address?

It depends on what service you are running, but usually the external port number should match the internal port number. (e.g. Web servers run on port 80 and 443, SSH runs on 22, FTP on 21 etc)

Every IP has around 65k ports. A good way to understand ports is to think of the IP address as an apartment/condo building address, and the port is the individual appartment/condo in the building.
