PC won't turn on... Properly

PhoenixX7

Issue:

The computer was working perfecting fine, no blue screen, i always monitered the GPU and CPU temperatures do to the hot and humid climate.

One the day it just didn't turn on, no light indicater, or fan movement. I opened it up and after so trial and errors it worked after i changed the dual memory sticks to the other slots.

The problem is now repeating it's self, but the same solucion didn't work. After disarming the computer i started to put piece by piece back in to rule out and possibly damaged part. The computer managed to turn on...somtimes, but the hardrive activity indicator doesn't turn, ever now and then it turns on gets to windows but shuts off after i open a browser or something else. It appears to be emotionally unstable.

Computer Specs:

-Gigabyte H87 LGA 1150

-Intel core I5 4430

-Corsair Vengance DDR3 1600MHz 2x4gb kit

-Sapphire Radeon 7870 2gb

-PSU: Corsair CX600watt

-Harddrive: Seagate 512gb 7200rpm(only old component, the rest is not more then 8 months old)

Update:

I follow your guys advice and decided to change the thermal paste on the CPU, only to find a crust of paste on the heat sink, after cleaning it and changing it, i turned on the computer got into windows, after waiting for the start when boot up programs calmed down i opened the browser, the computer shut off and restarted itself and found its own way into bios before shuting itself off for good.

Note: Before restarting itself the first thing to go black was the monitor it only showed No Signal Avalible

Hows the power supply? Fan spinning and stuff? can you get to bios and stay there without shutting down?

1. Check the power cable.

2. Make sure your PSU is on.

3. Check all internal connections again.

4. Make sure front panel headers are connected correctly.

If none of those fix it then either your PSU or your mobo is the culprit.

You can check the PSU by shorting the 24 pin (google how to, I forgot which pins you need to connect), and connect a hard drive or something to the psu, if it spins up then it most likely is not the hard drive causing the issue.

Kinda hard for him to scan for viruses and such if his pc will not power on at all, or even do any of what you said.

Use new thermal paste?

Thermal paste is what you apply on the CPU before putting on the heatsink, though typically heatsinks come with some pre-applied so you just have to install the heatsink and you're good to go, though if you remove it then you need to clean off both the CPU and heatsink (There are tutorials on how to correctly do it), then apply new thermal paste (Its like $6 per tube, and a single tube can be used plenty of times if you don't put too much) and re-install the heat-sink.

Try and put your hard drive into another computer and run scans for bad sectors because that can sometimes be the cause. If there is no signs of problems with that, it is probably a problem with your Power Supply or Motherboard. If it was a problem with your RAM it would normally blue screen from windows before shutting down.
