Planning New Year bonus spurge

wharfrat19

At the beginning of the year I get a good sized check from work that I use to fund something fun. This year I've decided on a new gaming/I'll think of something rig.

I am looking to make this build very much overkill with the latest and greatest, fully understanding that my budget is way over the top for what I will be primarily using this computer for.

1. Budget & Location

Seattle Wa. $5000 and I don't mind if I go over some

2. Aim

Gaming at max settings at 4k, video editing.

3. Monitors

     I already have 3 aser 246s

4. Peripherals

I have a decent keyboard I like but could use a new mmo mouse and fps mouse and a good headset.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I have always wanted a high end pc and have just decided I wanted to go balls out with a ridiculous build.

This is the build I've been playing with on pcpartpicker. Let me know how to make this build better or if I'm forgetting anything.

You really dont have to spend 5k to get a really nice 4k gaming system. Realistically you only need to spend maybe 3500

I think you should add one more SSD and go RAID 0, if you're alright with a bit of risk of course. For the RAM I think 2 8gb would be better

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X GPU: ASUS Strix Radeon R7 5700 XT OC Edition Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero RAM: G.Skill Trident Z DDR4-3200 CL14 SSD: 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB PSU: Corsair AX860 Cooling: NZXT Kraken X72 Case: Corsair Crystal Series 570X Mirror Black Display: BenQ XL2420Z  Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB Cherry MX Blue Mouse: Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum Audio: Logitech G633 Artemis Spectrum

I understand that, but I'm a lot like Tim the Toolman Taylor at Sears. I don't exactly know what the tool does but I want it.

he's using LGA-2011 so he probably wants to do quad-channel

Do you really need 980 SLI? Not too sure on this. maybe the 980Ti will come out before, so look out for that!

I think the i7 4790k would be a better value....

Looks pretty well match for an all-out build, though!

Change the cooler to the Kraken X61 and a 850W PSU will be more than enough. Then you can put the extra into something else.

There's no OS though, and I he probably wants to swap out the fans, and have a mouse/headset.

The i7 4790k is good though.

(I suspect he doesn't want value, though, he just wants an OTT baller rig)

The point was that if you add 100 for the OS, 100 for the fans, and 200 for the peripherals, you get a $3600 build, which is much closer to $4k than $3k.

You don't have to make a big deal out of it, just showing 4K build that's around 3K without peripherals.

But wasn't there something that affects the memory when there's more of it?

I don't think so...

@wharfrat19

Trying to spend the most I could while still making sense this is what I got

You've got an awesome rig. It's not good price:performance by most standards (especially in gaming) but it's well-balanced.

Thank you, but I wouldn't mind saving money.  Do you think prices will drop around Christmas and go back up after the holidays?

Probably, seeing as how they're new parts, so there might be some black Friday deals.

Honestly if you're looking to save some money I'd go with an LGA1150 build with a single 980.

One of things I'm wondering is should I buy on black Friday or when my bonus comes middle of February?

Do you have enough money to afford that? If you do then i think it's okay...

You can get the parts that are on sale first (e.g. maybe the 980 might go on sale but the CPU/Motherboard/RAM combo might not) and then get the rest when Feb comes round.

I can afford the whole thing now but I'm hoping many of the things will be on sale on black friday. If not then I'll wait until February.
