[SSD] How much storage is enough for a Macboon Pro used for school and music?

As the title says, I have a Macbook Pro I use for school and the HDD is making all these funky sounds so I think its going to die soon. 

 

I currently have a 500GB HDD in this, but I don't think I hardly use that much (except for my high res photos but that is being backed up somewhere else) 

 

128GB? 256 GB? I'm not sure what to go for.

You shouldnt need more than 128, maybe a 256. Depends on how much music/ movies you have

128gb should be fine for basic use, though if you plan to store a few things get the 256gb model (they can be upgraded btw later if you need)

Also you can buy one of these for more storage

do you have a odd in it, if so just use a 128gb for boot and a a 1tb drive for the extra stuff

What would be a good brand of SSD to use that won't punch a gaping hole in my college wallet? Crucial or Sandisk? Samsung and intel are a little too high up there for basic use.

My 120GB EVO is still holding up fine. Still have more than 70GB left. Not sure how much OS X takes up, but yeah. I have maybe 4-5GB of songs and close to a gig of wallpapers, and Office 2013 Pro Plus (another 3ish gigs). And a ton of other crap.

I recall hearing that OS X doesn't Omnom as much space as Windows does.
