DIY PSU Cable Sleeving? Yay Nay?

LaboonTheWhale

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if sleeving your own cables is smart or not. I have a lot of free time after my lectures are done for the day and I can only take playing video games for so long before I get bored so I am looking for another side hobby.

I found these sleeves on ebay which seemed pretty cheap and I have a EVGA Supernova G2 coming in the mail.

I want to have sleeves that contain different colors (Generic AMD White, Red, and Black alternating) and I see that bitfenix and other brands don't really offer that.

Should I try out sleeving as a hobby or should I just avoid it.

Thank you!

Sleeving cables yourself is pretty fun and the end result can look excellent. Before buying anything consider what you will need to completely sleeve the PSU and any other cables. Take a look at sleeving and heatshrink tubing (I recommend MDPC, their stuff is high quality and they offer many colours). You should get the measurements for your PSU cables and calculate how much sleeving you will need, then add 10-15% to that before you order anything. You are going to need the correct tools for removing the pins (one for the square sytle pins and one for the round molex pins), which can also be bought from MDPC. You will also need a heat gun and a lighter (any lighter will do).

This will help you with the heatshrink:

And you should check out tutorials from Lutro0:

And of course re-watch Linus' video about cable sleeving:

Sleeving your PSU can be expensive and take some effort and patience, but the results are well worth it. If you do sleeve your cables please post pictures. I hope this helps if you decide to go ahead with it :)
