Gaming on skylake cpu? (Predictions & Opinions)

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

Thanks for the advice, but arent cpu generations usually slight changes while this upgrade to skylake is quite substantial? This whole wireless thing is blowing my mind.

Well we know nothing really about skylake, so its not great to assume. Also, I have no idea where this wireless thing came from, are the CPUs going to be wireless or something? lol probably not.

I would not bother waiting and build a system now. If it really is a big performance improvement then you can always sell your old hardware and upgrade. But haswell is not going to be obsolete for a looong time.

I was going to make my first build this winter but I'm wondering if I should wait for skylake cpus. I know we dont know much, but I'm wondering if these cpus are the future for pc gaming or if theyre more for the "casual user"? The wireless approach might not be for gamers who want 1ms response times and the top of the line quickness out of their build. So will these cpus redefine pc builds and pc gaming? Or will it just be an option for those who prefer wireless over performance? Sorta like the wireless vs wired mouse argument. Thanks, i just dont want to wait a year and hear that this isnt the best option for gamers and neither do I want to spend 2k this winter and feel like im stuck in the last generation in a mere year.

(I'm an avid cs:go player, if that helps you understand my need for quickness)

Skylake only comes out in Q2 2015 for mobile... with Q3/Q4 release for desktop. should be a 100% performance improvement over haswell iris pro.

A year is a long time. Unless you upgrade every couple months you will be stuck in last generation. Get used to it, not everyone can afford upgrading every generation.

And if you keep waiting for the next generation you will never end up buying the parts. The value of depreciation is on average what your time with the product is worth. You can always sell it for less and upgrade to skylake when it comes, and the money you loose is what that one year of using it was worth. That's how stuff works. At some point you have to make up your mind and just buy what is available to you.
