Mini-ITX LGA 2011-v3?

Pufnstuf

Is there any chance we might see Mini-ITX LGA 2011-v3 mobos coming out? Is it even possible? or am I dumb for even asking? I was really hoping for my next build to be a small form factor, console sized epic gaming rig, but if I'm going to be throwing any money down on building a new rig it needs to have an i7 5930k and DDR4 Ram. Thoughts?

Evga said they tried really hard but it's essentially impossible. I doubt we will ever see it.

Maybe one day we might

The size of the socket itself could be the problem. 2011-3 is huge compared to 11xx

2011/2011-v3 are pointless for exclusive gaming rigs. An i7-4790k is overkill unless you planned on doing game play recording/editing/encoding. Z97 is a way more attractive platform for building a killer ITX rig, and even an i3 will run laps around a console :P

There is absolutely no reason in getting Mini ITX on X99. One of the main reasons to get X99 is all them PCIe lanes and you cannot fit enough PCIe slots on the board to even max out the amount of lanes your CPU has.

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

I know the 5930k is beyond overkill for gaming but I kind of want to try and future proof myself. I was planning on building the rig with a gtx 980 when it comes out and putting it all in a small form factor case and mobo. While I save up enough money to buy a second gtx 980 and 3 g-sync monitors at which point I would need to move over to a bigger case and bigger mobo.

Going ITX is a waste of money then. Just go with mATX

unsure about ITX form factor on X99 due physical size of the socket.  mATX version will be out soon.

So many people talking about gaming.

I'd imagine people like Linus would love a sff 8 core as a portable editing machine during trade shows

Isuspect ASUS will be the only one with a mini-itx for ROG and it will have a hefty price tag.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

yea, future proof yourself with a small Micro-ATX, then you can do SLI/Xfire to extend the life of the first card, and the LGA 1150 doesn't look to be dying any time soon
