Can you remove the Boost lock on this or whatever? Moto G

Bit8xPr0

This phone is so cheap and my dad works at walmart so pretty sure he gets a discount. Can I like root this so I can use it with Straightalk? I am planning on using this as a tablet or iPod alternative but want the phone capability possibly in the future http://www.walmart.com/ip/Boost-Moto-G-Prepaid-Smartphone/38055729

Wait is that what I'm looking for? I'm wondering if you can remove whatever restriction the Boost version of the Moto G has.

it says it works on the sprint network so i think it might be locked. but an unlocked moto G is like 150$ you probably can because it's legal to unlock phones again

I kind of just need to use it as an Android Tablet haha. I was wondering if they had like a lock where you had to insert sim card before you could use the phone at all or something.

oh no no there is nothing of the sort that I know of. you can use hte phone without a sim although it'll try to connect to a sim a lot.

Hmm. So do you think it would be worth getting something like this just for this Wifi use only or just save up for an unlocked Moto G 2014?

well if it's for tablet use the extra 0.5 inches could make a big difference.

Hmm yeah I guess that is true. I kind of want both tbh xD Moto G $70 first and then get a Moto G 2nd Gen maybe when it drops in price

That wont happen, if Motorola migrates it to a LTE version (like they did with the first generation) the price will in fact go up. So I would recommend just saving your money to put towards a Moto G second generation. That way once you own it you can go through any carrier you want, plus it should last you a couple years.

Yeah I guess that's true but it has the same specs as the 2013 version besides the camera and screen which I don't know if it's that big of the deal. Guess it just depends on the money I make before I crack and need a phone.
