Best 2.1 Speaker System

So, I'm going to revise my previous post as I'm going to take a different approach. 

 

Rather than setting a price limit, I'm going to set more of a "quality" limit. 

 

I'm currently using my Logitech UE6000 headphones as my speaker system, and I love how they send for both gaming and music. I did however notice something when using them on my computer. With the headphones turned off they sound very quiet when connected to my MSI Z97s SLI Plus (So, i'm assuming my motherboard doesn't have great built in audio). With that said, they sound excellent when I turn the headphones on. 

 

Now, as far as I know, the UE6000s are very similar in sound to the ATH M50s. 

 

TL;DR I'm looking for a 2.1 speaker system that performs comparably to the Logitech UE6000s (ATH M50s); and of course, cheaper is better.

 

Uses will be music and gaming.

Are the pro medias better than the z623s? I've heard mixed reviews about both. I've also been recommended Cyber Acoustics CA3550RB. Are the z623s/pro medias much better than the cyber acoustics? (seeing as the CAs are much cheaper) 

 

What bookshelf speakers/amp, and how much would that combo be? I'd also want a dedicated sub, so by that point bookshelf speakers get to be too expensive.

Logitech isn't a real audio company and it reflects in their products. Klipsch isn't the be all end all either, but at least audio is their forte.

I happen to have a Klipsch PM2.1 and a Logitech Z623, and the former has it all over the latter.....better vocals and highs, not muddied like on the Z623 (not unexpected since the PM2.1 has separate tweeters and mid drivers). The bass delivered on both subs is pretty good, but I'd give the sub on the PM2.1 an edge over the Z623. Both are great for gaming and movies where, to me, bass adds realism and impact to the games and movies, with the Klipsch being able to handle music somewhat better than the Z623.

If you can, and money isn't an issue, try to audition the AE A5+, heard good things about it. BTW, why not M Audio AV40?

Well, I haven't really decided between the av30s and av40s, but the av30s are $40 less and I don't think the av40s have that much better of a bass (the only real difference is the av40s have a 4" driver rather than a 3"). 

 

The A5+ are way out of my budget. I'm sure the AV30s/40s will be more than enough for me, the only potential downside is not enough bass--which Im sure the A5+ won't make up either.

Nothing really, just slightly improved bass vis-a-vis AV30 but is bigger than the AV30. Still, if you're keen on the AV30, there's nothing wrong with that choice either. Note that these monitors are pretty good for clarity for music playback, but would in all likeliness be somewhat lacking in the bass department.

I just think the AV30s make more sense considering the cost difference. And I don't  need or really want a pounding-overwhelming-base. Just a nice base for contrast.

Then yes, the AV30 should suit you just fine, it isn't truly lacking in the bass front, just lacks the punch that subs provide. It does cost a nice bit lower than the AV40 so I think you're all set......do provide some feedback when you have gotten it. I've always been curious about monitors, auditioned a few but couldn't quite bring myself to get one. I'm somewhat of a softcore (as oppose to hardcore) basshead. I like bass, more bass, but NOT at the cost of it drowning out everything else.

You're correct, the promedia 2.1's are in fact better than the z623's. They put most 5.1 speakers to shame imo.

I'm not dumb enough to buy it in the first place, there are many better options from legitimate audio companies.

I got them earlier today, and they sound pretty good, although they seem a bit soft at lower volumes. They could also definitely benefit from a sub, but all in all, they sound quite nice.
