HDD Temps

mosin40

Hello LTT community

I have a laptop with an ssd and a hdd, the problem is that my hdd is close to the gpu of my laptop and gets hot.

So should i move my ssd to the place where my hdd is?

Just a pic of my ssd and hdd temperatures:

I don't know much about hdds, but crystal disk info says that my hdd has some problems

That temp is fine. I'd only start worrying about temps if they hit ~45c+

Can you add a case fan to blow cool air onto the drives? If so, throw in a 120mm fan or whatever your case can take to cool 'em a bit. But those temps you have are fine.

Not even close to hot. My HDD runs from 7 to 9 every day, at 40C.

Well, I got a laptop that has a hard drive running that hot. I think it's normal, but probably keep the hard drive exposed for a while to cool it. Try to find the plastic covering the hard drive and remove it.

Either that, or if it's connected by a cable, run the HDD outside the laptop.

Nice idea, but the problem is that i take my laptop to school.

I have an hdd enclosure. (bought it in taiwan for $8, it is usb2.0) and it is hard to open it (doesn't have a screw)

And i can't find a screwdriver  :(

Oh. I would keep your laptop at home and use a netbook or a Chromebook for school. And I wouldn't trust my data with an 8 dollar Taiwanese POS. Worst case scenario? Enclosure catches fire and everything explodes.

Well, if your hard drives are very warm, maybe it's a shot. If it was a desktop.

HDDs can take temperatures of 50 deg C and more without too

much trouble, so that is not an issue. (source, pdf)

However, the "Current Pending Sector" count being more than

zero is an indication of a failing drive (source)
