Strange checker glitches (vid included)

I built my computer about a month ago and have been having this problem for about 2 weeks

At normal desktop use, temps are stable at around 39C.  It happens on both of my monitors

Is this because of a bad gpu?  Would it be too late to RMA it?

what are you using to overclock? Software overclocks can cause this, even if they would otherwise be stable.

That being said, i'm running at stock speeds and i get this exact same thing when i run for long periods of time. I am just being lazy when it comes to RMAing it.

I'm using MSI Afterburner.  Can I ask how long your gpu has been like that?  I'm ok with leaving it like this if I must, but I'm more worried about future problems this might indicate.

ive had this card for about three weeks.

I just recently added a second and the issue is still present, but no bluescreens, no FPS drop and only occasional glitches like this.

It IS best to RMA it, but i simply cannot be bothered right now. If you have the time, definitely RMA it.

The main reason i haven't, is because just recently i was working on a projector at work and literally 2 seconds after i looked into it while it was on, just the fan part, a capacitor exploded. 

Hurt like hell and i've been out a while, hardly being able to see without pain. So dealing with online RMAs and countless emails and phone calls are not my priority right now.

But if you have the time, definitely RMA the card.

Also, is it possible your card is factory overclocked? Try underclocking it to its reference speed and see what happens... I just thought of that, so i am going to try it later tonight.

Ancient 12.8 drivers from 2012 October. and used them until last march or something BUT those drivers are too old to recognize your card ,which drivers are you running ?

you and @GaryLChew should try underclocking memory to 1300mhz (lower than stock i know) and see if that helps.

Umm, GPU Tweak says my memory clock is 7000 Mhz. It wont even let me go lower than 6800.

Is there some sort of conversion i need to do to get the real clock or am i just too groggy to think?

EEffective gddr5 speed is multiplied by 4

So its 1700mhz

okay thanks. that would mean i need to set it to 5200. I can only set it as low as 6800.

To the OP, your resolution also doesn't seem to be set right. Either the camera you're recording with stretches the video, or you're running at a 4:3 resolution on a widescreen monitor.

It's definitely the camera.  I'm using 1920x1080 which is the max of the monitor.

try and reseat the graphics card and then replug the power for the graphics card. Also Try using a different display port, HDMI port, ect. Try using a different cable too

this has been present over two motherboards and two cpus as well as two sets of ram. 

For me anyway, this is a card/software issue.

I think it is drivers.

I've never personally had this issue before, but I want to blame the memory. Either it's defective and can't run at stock speeds, or it's just defective and doesn't work properly at all.

I'd also agree with a lot of the posts already here - like reseating the card, trying different ports, cables... Try running with a different graphics card for a bit to see if it really is your card.

 

Either way, I'd say talking to customer support and possibly RMAing the card might be your best odds of a fix.

 

Here's an idea I just thought of; buy an R7 240 to test with while you wait for an RMA. Everyone loves them low-end cards.

When you get your 270 back, keep the R7 in. You can use it for uh, whatever. Have it mining cryptocurrency or folding@home

while your R9 is free to game with.

I think it is the memory. a bit of looking around finds that every single poster saying they have this card is also having this issue. I have moved one card down a pcie slot and the issue is still there, i also just lowered the memory speed to 1600 but i havent have sufficient time to see if it fixed it yet. I will run valley after my morning forum rounds.
