Can the gtx 980 handle 4k

cadabri
Go to solution Solved by TheGeeker,

it will max 1080p. it will run 4k not games but you can edit in 4k and be fine.

Hello, I just ordered a PC from HP (Envy phoenix) because HP was running a 30 percent deal off of any PC over 1200, and my parents prefer to buy pre-built PCs than building them (Long explanation of why I bought a pre-built PC so I hopefully don't get hate) Anyway, It has a i7-5930k, 24gb ram, ssd boot drive, and a GTX 980, first thing is, I just want to know if this will be able to handle games at 1080p. Second, I would like to know if this would be able to handle, not particularly 4k video games, but rather videos, I have a phantom 3 pro, and so I will be editing 4k, and also if it could be able to handle things like 4k youtube. Thank you!

Thank you for the help!

-UPDATE- Thank you for the suggestions for other places to buy it at, but for the price it is practically unbeatable, for 1900 I got all mentioned above plus two 2tb hard drives and one 256gb ssd and a keyboard mouse combo (Plus, remember, 30 percent off)

Yes an yes. How much did this thing run you? HP isn't the greatest. Digital Storm would have been a better option.

I have a very similar PC to yours, mine has the same CPU with 16gb RAM and a GTX 980 Ti. To be frank, recording with it is probably a no-go if you want it to be consistently above 30 (or even 60 if you were thinking that).

Here's a video with benchmarks on 4K

Edit: I just realized how little this PC ran you for the parts. 30% off? My God, I feel suckered (I paid a little over $2,000 for mine and have less RAM and a crap PSU  :()

It will run most pre2012 games 4k 60 fps ultra.

You can almost get 60fps on 4k with a 980 if you turn down settings a lot. Mobas and mmos 60 fps 4k guaranteed.

1440p is the sweet spot for that card.

Not really an ideal card for 4K gaming; best to use a 980ti. A 980 will handle 1080p easily.

If I was gonna get a prebuilt, I'd go Origin or Falcon Northwest over Digital Storm any day.

Actualy, after taxes it was about 900 even, but for the full specs it also has two 2tb hard drives, and as mentioned, a 256gb ssd

at medium settings you should get 60fps in most demanding titles

less intensive games should run fine at high and ultra

Idk there falcon does some really janky shit with base configurations and their case airflow isn't very well good.

I mean they do a good job on their shit, I just don't think their pcs make sense (start off with stupidass settings then super overcharge for upgrades.)

But hey the tiki is one beautiful pc.

Why's that? Origin feels like Alienware.

I find it a tad ironic that I can barely even watch this video on my current laptop (Alienware!) so that also explains why I have a tad of bad blood with dell.

Well they are pretty much in the same price range as Digital Storm.

Honestly, I just don't like Digital Storm. They make some sexy cases and all but that video where the guy said people at home couldn't build a PC of their quality kinda turned me off of them. It's not hard to build a PC. In fact, it's a step down from Legos. Yes, they do a great job but it's nothing that any experienced builder couldn't do.

True, and in my experience no prebuilt can come close to the attention to detail I give with my builds (probably because I know exactly what I want where I want it).

The biggest draw for me is some of their custom cases. Idc about anything else. I offered 300 dollars to falcon northwest for a tiki case.

While they also may be "the same price range" When I took a quick look, I only really saw some PCs with major step downs in one part or another, not to mention I hate their pre-chosen specs, like, I get that your trying to be easy but add maybe SOME way of changing the specs
