Black Screen after FurMark

Hi Guys

 

i just finished a new Build. It is fully custom watercooled and contains a MSI GTX 1070 in the Loop. I installed Windows, downloaded Fallout 76 and startet playing - but it crashed when i was in the character editor serveral times. GPU Temps were around 68 degrees Celcius.

I assumed it had something todo with the GPU so i started FurMark in the FullHD mode. After aprox. 40 sec i heard a click noise inside my PC, the screen turned Black and i restarted the PC - but there was just a Black screen. Windows boots (i can see that on my Keyboard LCD). If I plug in an old GPU i have laying around Windows boots up just fine.. but a soon i plug in the GTX 1070 it wont show anything but the blackscreen. Any Ideas Guys?

 

My PSU is just 550W - but that would not affecting boot does it?

RMA that card.   Don't run Furmark ever again, even EVGA RMA staff said it's known to damage cards they get in.  Take it for what it's worth, it's what the guy said.

 

But honestly, don't mess around with it, just send it in and let the manufacturer deal with it.

First off, you should not see 68C on a watercoled card. I never see above 62C on a 290x which pulls about 100W more on full power target.
 

The descriptions sound like your 1070 is electrically faulty. This could be a minor issue or a major problem.
Did you test the card before watercooling it to try and prevent this from happening?

 

I have never had issues with Furmark. It is a mostly unrealistic load but as long as you keep temps in check you should be fine. This ofc should include reasonable VRM temperatures.

Windows install and NVidia driver.
Also how would the driver explain relay clicking in the PSU to turn it off and on in a loop? The driver is not loaded ath that point

i doesnt really turn on and off in a loop - it boots fine, it just has a black screen. 

The relay clicking was just once (while FurMark)

Okay - so i did manage to boot Windows with no Screen but Teamviewer gave me the opportunity to log in and i found out that the card is not detected right now but Win is working fine. MAYBE it is the PSU.. I will try to give it power from another PSU and see what happens... any other Ideas what i can do right now?

i am wondering if the GPU tried to pull too much peak power and caused the PSU to trip.  Try playing an intense game and push the GPU to see if it's got any power issues.

so - i tried another PSU - nothing changed.. It is definetly the GPU. I will empty my loop, put the Stock cooler back on and start RMA i guess.. Or does anyone has another idea?

There are no other ideas better than sending your GPU to the manufacturer so they can run super pimp diagnostics on it for free and sending you back a guaranteed working properly card

 

Unless you can add RGB to it.  Then it might be a better idea.  Cuz RGB.
