Any advice for an upgrade to my cpu and mobo (with the intention of upgrading my graphics card within the next year). I’d also like a nice case, with decent cable management opportunities, space for 2 HDD’s and an SSD (current case is a mid tower).

Currently have an i5 7400

Budget is £400

Rx580 Red Devil

Msi b40 tomahawk

Ryzen 5 2600

NZXT H500

Arctic Freezer 33

EVGA supernova 650 watts 80+ gold

3x WD caviar blue 1tb HDD

1x Corsair SSD

What would the planned GPU upgrade be?

There's a lot of good cases at around 75euro that look good and have excelent build quality like NZXT's H500, but if you get something greater than a 1060/RX590 (like a RTX2070 or a GTRX1080 or above) you might want to consider something with better ventilation like the Coolermaster H500 or the Fractal Design Meshify C, which both should be under 100 euro

What level of GPU are we talking? For most cases, the Ryzen 5 2600 with a B450 motherboard and 16gb of ram is best right now. A case is up to personal preference as long as you research the airflow. Do you have a current graphics card and what is it? If you are getting a GPU any level under or at a 1060 or 590 there is no reason to upgrade your CPU.

I’m going to aim for a 1070, but that will take some time. This was more about getting the rest of my system ready to upgrade and being bottlenecked by a 1050ti till said upgrade. I don’t know if this is a good idea, but the main reason is that I’m not gonna be able to save enough for this and gfx at once and I really want to build (at least part of) a pc again.

Unless there are specific CPU tasks that you are doing that warrant a CPU upgrade, there is really no reason to upgrade. Zen 2 will come out next year and you will get better performance for the same price.
