meh, I think you can do better on some parts.

we're talking about 1k australian here? or are you shopping somewhere else?

No, get a used HP Z workstation with at least a quad core CPU, and throw in a used graphics card.

Most of the parts will be brought from PB Tech so it is New Zealand Dollar

I'd recommend a slightly better graphics card maybe a 1060 or even a 1070? A nicely overclocked 1070 is just about as good as a 1080 and I've heard are very reliable. If you're looking for a better CPU i would go for an Intel CPU, but that may just run you over your budget there so if you're going to do anything, get a better graphics card.

Thanks for the suggestions but just to stay in my budget I think I might just leave it at that

This is what I will recommend first timers to start from. Basically I put focus in upgradability, not the build you give which while faster than what I listed, will eventually have most of it replaced over time in upgrades.
