Bad battery life.

XR6

Hi everyone,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 which I bought brand new in April 2018, and it has horrible battery life.

I've only browsed Instagram and Twitter aswell as sending WhatsApp messages. That's it.

I don't want to replace the battery myself as I don't want to void the warranty and I don't trust 3rd party parts.

What should I do?

Thanks.

and.. what exactly is a horrible battery life?

Even if you don't use it at all, after 2-3 weeks every smartphone will be at 3%.

What's the Screen-on-Time of this perticular battery Charge? (or any 100% --> 3%~ discharge cycle)?

Was the battery life always bad? Did it SUDDENLY got worse? Like, half battery life from one day to another? (then it's not because of the batter).

Half a year is usually not enough for the battery to get so old, that your battery life is "horrible". Even if you fast-charge it every night.

My S7 Edge had like 72-73%~ Battery capacity left, after 31 months of continous using.

If you don't trust third parties, send it on to Samsung. I'm pretty sure they'll be happy to replace the battery for you for a fee.

sorry for not explaining. the phone was at 100% fully charged (with the green led light illuminated) at 10:00am, and the phone was at 3% at 4:30pm. not really too great. 6 hours isn't horrible but it definitely isn't what i'd expect from a 6 month old phone. i fast charge the phone every night, i always close apps from the app switcher after i've finished using them and i usually keep the brightness on half. the battery life decreased quite badly around august/september and since then the battery has degraded a little bit each day.

Yeah. That's not too surprising. You purchased an older device. Lithium ion batteries not only have a charge cycle life, but a shelf life; if they're left sitting, it's just as bad as when they're being used. IIRC the self life is around 3 or 4 years. So your battery would already have been on it's way out.

Maybe the Pixel 3 Lite will be a great device and worth upgrading to.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have faced the same battery issue with my Asus zen max pro then Asus laptop battery replacement suggests me to update the device after that battery standby time increase. So, I will always suggest you keep your phone up to date.

My 6s Plus is at this stage. It's really cheap to replace batteries but it's a good reason to use my phone less so I'm okay with it. I usually have to plug it in in the early afternoon though.

Try slow charging and turn off unnecessary background services (NFC, Bluetooth etc.)

You may actually be harming battery life by closing and reopening apps all the time. When you launch an app it has to reload all the data, but when the app is in standby it uses a small bit more power long term but needs much less power to open again. So keep apps like WhatsApp that you use a lot open

That's an F in the profile pic
