i needed something to game on, when i am in my summer house, so bought a R17 alienware, the 1070oc, 1440p, 120hz, 6 core giant brick, and still got a NOISY mess, that needed to be throttlestopped, just to make it silent on desktop, but it is okay..

i just wish there was a middle way, everyone is using the quite hot 6core, but the lv 4 core, seems to be as good as the old HQ processer..

are there anyone doing a

1070Max-Q with a I7 8550 but in a medium sized Chassie, it should be possible to keep decently quiet.. and a great 1080p gaming rig...

either it is Razer blade / DELL XPS thin laptops, or GIANT box´es with all the hardware, or middle sized, but still with the full spec 6 core cpu..

There are definitely some options, just know that gaming laptops will always be louder than PC's.

They sit right on front of you, have more restrictive airflow; of course some have better fans and cooling solutions than others.

Looking for a Quad-Core 1070 laptop

ASUS

HP

Of course that's just Amazon, my point being there is heaps of 4-Core machines still up for sale even paired with a GTX1070.

Personally I'd look for a 6-Core one with good cooling, reviews are your best source of information here.

Hi Rasmus/Hej Rasmus(Er også fra Danmark)

Dell products have a reputation for having problems with bad factory thermal compound.
I would recommend replacing the thermal compound if you would be comfortable with opening the laptop.
I currently have a Precision M4800, and had a XPS 12 before that, and i have in both cases had great luck with changing the thermal compound. Komplett Is a good place to look

The one above is a good deal, and should be all you need. But if you are feeling adventurous maybe try liquid metal

This is a Thinkpad G40 from 2003. It has a 69w desktop socket 478 Pentium 4 at 2.8ghz inside it.

it is 2.8 inches thick

it weighs 9 pounds

it has a dual fan cooler made with more copper than the US army dumped into Iraq

it stays under 65c and runs passively at low load, no fans when under 60c, at 65c it runs at low rpm, I've yet to get it above 65c

what laptop manufacturers need to do is stop with this slim and aesthetic crap and just put a big cooler in a laptop, there is no way a 35/45w mobile quadcore should ever be getting above 50c under max load if this thing can handle a 69w processor PASSIVELY and even when it ramps up at load it can stay cool

Couldn't agree more here.

Thin laptops are nice, there is market for them.

Just don't make all laptops thin & lights; it isn't feasible as shown by the recent trend of "Let's cram six core chips with GTX1070's in laptops the thickness of a Macbook"

It doesn't work, neither will it for the foreseeable future.

By the way, that's one well maintained Thinkpad! kudos for keeping it in such good condition ;)

Planning on getting myself an Asus ultrabook, fin and light with an i7 8550U but it only features a MX150 and 1080p display.

IF you only gonna use it mostly on your summer house why not build a desktop gaming pc and leave it there? $ wise it can end up even cheaper considering the ridiculously high gaming laptops price tag.

Every brand is the same

If the model has good cooling, it can handle CFL-H CPU without issue, no need to go for ULV. The problem is, AW17 don't really have great cooling

Where are you from? Budget? Any preference on weight and battery life? (mind you, thin and light has worse thermals)
