I'd just like to see suggestions for good value college laptops. I don't need or want any gaming capability or anything like that because I'm going to be bringing my pc for that. Basically the least expensive good laptop that will do typing and internet searching and whatnot, but also isn't crap (i.e. won't die). I could pick out a random one on Amazon but I just wanted to be sure I was making a good choice.

LG Grams seem to be decent if you can afford one.

Make sure you get one with 750GB-1TB of storage, though.

Maybe 3 or $400, so no lg gram. I'm in Maryland in the US. I'd like a max of 18" but the smaller and lighter the better really. Battery life should really just be long enough to last medium-light use for a day's worth of school use. As for other requirements, a keyboard that's good to type on would be nice. If I sound vague its because I'm not trying to be picky, but I hope I'm not uninformative.

Word is really the only thing that immediately comes to mind. Other than that It'll probably be used for light browsing. I'm really just looking for a device that can do what my desktop can't, which is be portable, and beyond that it just needs to be reliable.

Then you may just be better off with a Chromebook.

Ya, that looks great

I don't see any issues

The only downside I can think of, is that this laptop does not have an SD card slot.

I think about that, but I don't think an external SD card reader will be a problem

The reason thy that may be a downside is due to the fact that it only has 16GB of storage, which is plenty for most applications, but hey for ~$20 USD you can get a 128GB MicroSD card, and then store data on it without having to carry around another adapter.

Good point. Are there any options with an SD card slot?

I bought an Inspiron 15, It isn't going to win any awards, but its cheap and works for Microsoft office programs, web browsing and the like.

Looks interesting, and has much more storage, slightly slower processor, but that shouldn't be a problem.

plus it uses windows over chromeOS.

Most people don't need Slim Ultra light laptops, overall it isn't too heavy for college classes as it can fit in a backpack/tote, and won't make much difference especially when compared to some textbooks, the battery isnt some crazy 10-11hr, it is around 5hr with note taking and 3-4hr with mixed use, but most classroom, have a spot or two near an outlet. As long as you aren't super paranoid or know you aren't going to be away from an outlet all day and take notes all day this laptop is a good simple laptop

I wouldn't expect battery life to be an issue so otherwise it sounds like a good choice

well I'm still a senior in high school so who knows what could change, but currently it's mechanical engineering.

Ok, unless you need a laptop that is capable with CAD Programs, just go to a Best Buy, Walmart, or something and find a $250-$300 non-chromebook Laptop and you should be good as most of those classes should have a place to plug into every couple classes or so.

Ya that's what I would expect too.
