What GPU fan style should I get for my build?

mxk

I wad kind of confused with what style of fans on the 1070ti I plan to buy. I plan to have two fans on the front of the nzxt h500 as intake, and two exhuast fans (one on top, one on the back). Would it be ideal to get a blower style card or get a regular multi fan card that recirculates the air. I'd rather change the card style, but if I have to change the case instead I will if it means better airflow.

yeah but blower cards help keep the inside of the case cooler since the hot air is expelled out the case.

airflow is not an issue if you have a decent case with the right fan set up.

Do plan to liquid cool the card or stay air flow only?

Probably not possible but can you add fans to side of the case to pull in air?

Third option: TMM: The Mesh Mod:

Remove the side panel.

Get some door wire mesh and duct tape to the side panel like this:

greenmesh01.jpg

Then place some square chicken wire -the bigger kind over this and bend into place and then zip tie as many 120 mm fans as you want to the chicken wire on the side.

I was considering dabbling with some liquid card cooling but if I do it might be custom, and in the future. If I do it now it'll be because the 1070ti EVGA hybrid went on sale again.

That mesh mod looks amazing and amusing and I might do a meme build with it.

It definitely will keep everything cool.

I use the mesh method on the side panel and have 2 120mm zip tied there -1 over graphics card and one over cpu and they blow air into the system.

Then again I have 3 120's pulling air in the front.

3 120's pulling and flowing through the CPU.

3 120's exhausts pulling out the back -not to mention the 3 fans directing air around the graphics card inside.

I guess I went overboard on fans... but keeping it cool vs not then overboard will always wins.

Only get a blower model if:

1.) You like the smell of napalm in the morning (see also; Smell of Electronics Heating Up)

2.) You have terrible cooling and need something to remove that hot air building up in your case because you do not have adequate exhaust.

4.) See what I did there?

5.) Blowers are only good if you have no way of removing that air.  A GPU spinning hot air repeatedly is bad.  But if your exhaust is working its not re-spinning already hot air again.

6.) Buy this, Id rather you do this than submit yourself to a Blower style card, unless you know just how much you hate your ears already:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA85V3DG9681&Description=GPU cooling fan&cm_re=GPU_cooling_fan-_-35-230-027-_-Product

Put that under your card and it will do it...quieter than a blower style will...but again you have optimal intake and exhaust its a non-issue.

One last thing, if you want to subject your PSU to more heat (back in the day the PSU was actually used to help remove, think top mount PSU, heat coming up off of the CPU as well as the rear exhaust) and have a bottom mounted PSU, face the fan *up* towards the GPU so its sucking the air out of your case (GPU blows it down, PSU sucks it right out), rather then a blower style.

I quit gaming for 1 year when I bought a blower style, dual GPU AMD 4x series card...it was so loud...I have nightmares thinking about it LOLOL.  I couldn't even boot up the PC without my nerves grating.

I think my setup will be good. I got it all sorted it out but I'll definitely keep the PSU thing in mind, my old ass case has a top mounted PSU.

I plan to have my case filled with noctua fans (nzxt h500) so I think airflow should be good.

A lot of cases have PSU shrouds so I'll probably have to mount it downwards regardless.
