Power supply choosing help

Go to solution Solved by nsyedhasan,

I'd suggest the 750w version :)

650W is usually enough for 1 GPU, but I'd say the same having extra wattage doesn't hurt.

Can you help me to buy a power supply for my new motherboard, MSI Z87 GD65?

I will need a low cost power supply, COSAIR are quite expensive for me i guess

budget is 100-150 dollars but if it cost more i'm willing to spend , but i will appreciate low budget supply

My cpu configuration will be an I5 processor-4670K-3.4 GHZ

RAM - 4-8 GB

Hard disk - 1 160 GB , 1 250 GB

about graphic card, not thought of anything yet, i will be glad to have your suggestions but for now i can use the integrated one

thank you

Most Seasonic offerings will be a good choice, specifically http://products.ncix.com/detail/seasonic-x-series-750w-atx-12v-24pin-80plus-gold-fully-modular-dc-to-dc-power-supply-w-hybrid-fan-fb-80026.htm is one of the better and pretty close to your budget. It will also have headroom enough if you ever wanna go dual GPU.

I'd suggest against that one, and go for this one instead. http://products.ncix.com/detail/xfx-pro-750w-black-edition-single-rail-full-modular-12v-70a-24pin-atx-psu-80-gold-cert-4f-78946.htm

Exact same PSU (literally, it's just re-branded), but it's cheaper.

If that's the case there's of course no reason to go for the more expensive Seasonic. :) That's a great price for a great PSU. Note that the warranty is different though.

5 year on the XFX vs 7 on the SeaSonic, not a big deal IMHO.

Another good option is the Cooler Master V650s, mine is very quiet. It's a Seasonic OEM, so it was to be expected.

For a single GPU setup 650w is more than enough, no need for a 700w+ PSU. You'd probably be fine with a 550w unit aswell, but a bit of headroom is always nice.

first, will you SLI/CF in the future ? no need for 700W+ if you will not. but since you have a z87 board with locked cpu i think you will or why did you bought that mobo if you won`t OC?

i see you have a locked cpu. so no OC. so no need for 600W either.

65W tdp cpu. man ,to be honest , you can put a gtx 780 Ti in your rig and power it with a seasonic G 450W and not even coming close to full load the psu. go with seasonic G 550 couse its more than enough

thank you for responding, just searched for it, a purely economical power supply,

but im rather thinking of getting this processor

I5 processor-4670K-3.4 GHZ

would it be able to handle it? how about if i have to overclock in the future? thanx

I just realised about overclocking and changing the choice of my processor to

intel quad core I5 processor-4670K-3.4 GHZ

will the power supplied you suggested be enough after i overclock? thank you :)

That processor with motherboard, memory, storage and fans would probably draw between 100-150 watt on full load depending on clock and voltage. Add a 780ti or 290x and it'll draw 200-300 watts more depending on clock, voltage and load. So about 400 watt whole system in a game scenario. good quality 500-600 watt PSU should do it. Also remember power consumption will go down in the future. If you buy a new GPU in 2-3 years chances are it will only draw 100 watt on load. So only go for 700-800 watt ones if you know you are going to SLI/CF a 780ti-290x. Then again an overkill PSU doesn't really hurt it only generally costs more and is a less efficient in idle.

that's why I said that he should get a 750w psu. if his board supports 2 gpu s, why the psu shouldn't ? :)

Yes, and GTX 780.

i appologise for disturbing you again but i tried to find evga in my country and its not available

my choice of power supply are very limited

My specs are as follows : (FOR NOW)

- Z87 GD65 mobo

-4 GB RAM

-Integrated graphic card ( will change for the future, but my budget is tight for now)

-Intel Quad Core i5-4670K Processor 3.4 GHz Intel HD Graphics 4600 Socket LGA1150

Budget does not matter to me for now since i will need to get the supply from my country itself

About over clocking - it will be in the future, not now, but i need a supply which will be able to resist overclocking

my choices are as follows

[first original link](http://www.fastclick...s.aspx?topid=17)

[second link](http://jaceycomputer...ord1=&keyword2=)

As you can see, my choices are very limited, but if these will not be able to make my system work properly, i can then think of buying online, shipping will cost me a lot though

what's your opinions?

so, any psu, over 600w(or even over 550w) will be enough for a system with one overclocked cpu, one single gpu video card, 2-3 hard drives and some fans

I said that you should get a 750w psu so, if you'll buy now a video card(770, 780, 280x, 290, 290x) after some months, when you have enough money, you could throw that in and work just fine. having a psu smaller than 750w, would mean that you should buy a 750w or more psu and the video card
