PC won’t start up

Tried to build a pc out of some old parts today. 

 

I wanted to test to see if the parts worked and plugged in the 24pin and 4pin atx connectors into the motherboard together with the cpu fan. When I shorted the power button connector the fans started to spin and stopped a second later. I took out the cpu and tried to start it and the fan started spinning. I put back the cpu and tried to start the system but the fan started spinning and stopped a second later with no display.

 

specs:

intel core 2 quad q8200

asus Benicia motherboard

4gb ddr2

antec truepower 650

the board should have integrated graphics. Right now I can’t even get the system to start so thats the problem

Since the board stops working when you put in this CPU, try a different CPU to make sure it's not just a dead board.

I don’t actually have another cpu though. Nobody who I know uses an lga775 cpu anymore so I don’t have a way of testing that out

Then you'll have to buy one. A core 2 duo or pentium can't be much more than a few bucks.
