Best Anti Virus and Zero Day (Sorry for general but I didn't know what else to do)

TheNinjaNextDor

Today I was downloading Aida 64 from CNET and ended up getting a bunch of excess crap that went along with it and started getting redirected to a different page like when going to Twitch .tv I would get a redirect to download Java updates or update Google Chrome. So I wanted to get and anti virus and zero day because I don't want to get a virus and also want to scan for some. Whats the best one? Please no Norton or AVG I've had bad experiences with them.

FYI: I uninstalled all the programs that came with the CNET Aida 64

A combination of Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware would more than suffice. Most people just use MSE and not download off third party / stupid websites.

Download things you know to be safe, or from reputable sources and you should be fine.

tl;dr common sense = best anti-virus (also helps with life in general).

Does that do both?

officially the free version is just an anti-virus / anti-spyware. however it does more than that even if they say it doesn't.

They are all kind of bad to be honest but at least MS security essentials isn't a resource hog. As the other person said, Malwarebytes is exceptional. All free programs will try to install toolbars and crap like that. That is why they are free. During install just learn to really read what is being presented to you (except the terms of service, cus no one reads that crap, even if they should). Uncheck extra junk you don't need. Choose advanced/custom install.

Also go to control panel, add remove programs. Look for "toolbars" and crap. Remove them. Many times it isn't malware per say, just crap you don't want.

As far as Malwarebytes. Run it once to update it.  Reboot.  Press f8 during boot to get to safe mode. Run it. Safe mode should totally clean out what you have.

Reboot and you should be good to go. Under options have malwarebytes not start at boot. The less things you have running at boot? Faster the system runs.

Thats what would be called adware. I usually tend to avoid it so I dont know if something like antivirus would remove it. But I recommend ESET and Malwarebytes.

Also when you say you uninstalled it all you likely didnt if your still having issues. Try sorting the programs and features list by date.

I absolutely love Avast and Malewarebytes. I install both on all of my PCs, as well as all of my customer's PCs. Pretty much any of the security programs listed on Ninite are great, but I just stick to my guns with Avast / Malewarebytes.
