you need an amp if you have a DAC, in your case you just have a combo unit that has both a DAC and amp in it.

well for pure amp you can get the magni 3 for $100, it's value is hard to beat and it will have plenty of power for basically any headphone, which will allow you to keep using it even if you get some power hungry headphones. It is basically the go to entry level headphone amp.

i bought these https://www.massdrop.com/buy/51847#specs

and i'm not sure if they will work well with the Behringer U-Phoria UM2

so i'm looking for some advice and suggestions

i have used the headphone calculator (http://www.digizoid.com/power.php) and that didn't help me out because i'm not sure what to look for using the numbers

Looks similar to a FocusRite Scarlett Solo. I've heard they can power any medium-high quality cans just fine (I know looks means almost nothing but still, same style). If you already have that, you might as well try it. For reference, I have HD 6XX's and a Schiit Magni 3/Modi 3. Great combo imo, don't think I'll need to ever buy anything else.

What's your budget? Do you want both a DAC and an amp or just an amp?

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

+1 for the Magni 3. It’s built like a brick schiithouse. It’s my learning-this-weirdo-hobby-go-to device. I’m already going full-on-whoo-whoo & picked up a Vali 2 Tube Amplifier. I like glowing reefers ontop of my electronics. ?

I've plugged them directly to the unamplified line of my FIIO e10k and it's still ok or am I missing something? I threw in the dragonfly as another option which works great.

the line out can ruin your headphones, the line out on a DAC or amp will output in general 2-2.2 Vrms, that's enough to damage some headphones, you also don't have any form of control of the volume except digital or if it has a pre amp. Plus DACs only have RCA/XLR out, except for some cheap and often china DACs that for some reason offer 3.5mm even though there isn't a amp in it.

The line out impedance for your typical DAC with RCA is 75 Ohm, that can and will give you dampening issues with a lot of headphones, often the bass becomes bloated/more bloated.
