PC specs and 3dmark score?

That makes it too easy. I prefer guessing what the problem is. Much more rewarding when you happen to get it right.

Uhh.... Hmm... Umm.... Is it thermal throttling?

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry, my internet cut out and I totally forgot about this topic.

My specs are:

AMD Threadripper 2990WX (Dynamic Local Mode and Precision Boost Overdrive turned on)

64GB 2993mhz G.Skill (8GB modules)

MSI Pro Carbon Gaming Motherboard

NVME SSDs drives (5 of them)

2080Ti Founders Edition

My 4K 3D Mark TimeSpy can get no better than 5200.  1080p is average 7500.  I see graphics scores double this (non-sli).

Cinebench multi-core is average 4900 to 5100.

Also my CPU and GPU temps idle in the low to mid 30c.  Under heavy load, no more than 65c.  I have a large case, plenty of airflow, 2 sys fans, massive CPU cooler.

Is this enough information why I can't get much higher 3DMark skills.

BTW, I just started playing Crysis 3 and Gears of War 4.  I play both in 4K with details to the max (but VSYNC on, 6ohz monitior, I hate tearing) and I'm rock solid 60fps.

I video edit in Premiere and do After Effects... don't know where to check if my render times are ok, bad, or great.  It seems normal.

Probable issues: Single channel ram, Fast ram that isnt at full speed (xmp profile), thermal throttling processor/gpu.

Gskill ram can sometimes act funky and run at a lower speed right out of the box. (had issue with mine) You can see your actual ram speed that your computer is running at in task manager or in your motherboards bios. If the graphics card you are using is a 2080ti founder edition then you may have thermal issues if you have other components in your pc that run hot because the founders edition card is made of metal and not plastic like 3rd party cards ex. Asus, Msi, Evga  well its made of more metal. I mean why do you think they switched the cooling design? Of course you could have always gotten a slower cpu gpu etc out of the box. Some processors that are the same perform better than others. My i7 7700k for example is a lot better than most peoples even at base frequency.
