before i get started.... let me get something clear... NO arguing, fighting, etc.. this is a constructive chat, i am trying to get multiple point of views for a project... so yes, this post DOES have a point. i am not trying to start any fights or arguments, i am simply looking for input... i just have to throw that out there so hopefully this does not get taken down

 

anywho, i am a known tech nerd at my school.... so when an argument broke out in my tech class about xbox vs ps4, everybody was getting mad at each other and the teacher was not doing anything, so people turned to me and asked which i thought... and i said “pc master race” as a joke.. the teacher looked at me and said “why is that?” so i went on to explain upgradability, and such..

 but while i was talking the class ended and the teacher said if i wanted, i could write a paper about which is better, and i really want to because it is an every day argument and it js annoying “ps4 is faster” yeah, “xbox has pubg” okay, “ps4 has spiderman” so i wanna just end these arguments in my class so i can do my work

 

tl/dr, i need to write a paper about pc vs console to end an argument

 

i already have the basics, such as you can upgrade pc, you can choose what goes in it, you can make your own games, etc.. but i need reasons why PC is truely better, and reasons why Console is better (proper argumentative essays have counter claims) so any help is appreciated, there is no due date, the teacher just wants to know my reasons

 

as i said, any help appreciated,

- In regards to x has y,  It's brand ownership/partnership. Nothings going to change that but the companies themselves.

 

Your "thesis" seems to be leaning towards one side though. You don't need counterclaims if its a neutral argument describing both sides'  strengths and weaknesses.

nah its one sided lol, there are really no *actual* downsides that cannot be worked around.. but console has too many

Why PCs are better:

  • Backwards compatibility
  • You can choose the components to suit your needs/wants
  • You can upgrade them
  • You have more settings to play with in games to go with performance or image quality
  • You can do other things with a PC than just gaming

Why consoles are better

  • Software typically "just works"
  • System is typically "plug it in, turn it on, and play"
  • You don't have to worry about "will this run?"
  • At least for the PS4 and XB1, their secondary function as a multimedia machine allows them to handle multimedia better than PCs. Or at the very least, doesn't require asinine things due to DRM like you can't watch Netflix 4K without at the minimum a Kaby Lake or Ryzen processor, Windows 10, and you need to use Edge.
  • The UI/UX is designed for a "on the couch" experience, which people find more relaxing

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

If you want counter arguments to those because I'm feeling knee-jerky

  • I don't really like the argument that a $400 modern PC can beat a console, because that's like saying a $400 modern PC can beat a $400 PC from a few years ago. Also most of these comparisons leave out components like an optical drive and such, making the price for the hardware comparison unfair.

    (I did touch on this in January 2017 to "build" the PS4 Pro: https://linustechtips.com/main/blogs/entry/1216-lets-build-the-ps4-pro/)
  • Online multiplayer in PC gaming tends to be more rampant with cheaters than consoles. That's not to say cheaters don't exist on consoles, but it seems more prevalent with PCs. Not to mention you do get perks for having PS+ or XBL Gold such as free games and discounts.
  • Keyboards and mice I find aren't always the best for certain games. For me, platformers, third person games, and driving games work a lot better with a controller than a keyboard/mouse.
  • You can stick an SSD in a PS4 (though I think you can mod an Xbox One to have it). Though the PS4 does have an issue in that the storage device is actually connected over USB.
