Help me with Upgrades please :)

Hi, So i am wanting to upgrade my Cpu and GPU i have a budget of 320 Pounds and for the GPU im thinking of getting a R9 280X but with the CPU im stuck, I dont know whether i should get a AMD 6300 - 8320 or a 8350 i use My PC for heavy gaming and general use, or should i get a different CPU and GPU i don't know .

 

My system :

AMD FX 4100

GTX 650 Ti sparkle OC

550W PSU

Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 motherboard

 

Detailed Response would be really appreciated

Honestly, for gaming there isn't a huge difference between the 4100 and the other AMD CPU's.

I'd just throw all your money into the video card. and OC the CPU

well, since you have a budget of 320 pounds, you can get both 280x and a fx8350.

go for a 280x and a FX8320 its the exact same as the FC8350 only cheaper and 0.5Ghz slower.

It's MUCH better to just spend all the money on a AMD 290 unless someone can give me an example as to why it's not.

Save up a little, get a NXZT Kraken and liquid cool it later if you want to squeeze even more performance out of it.

I don't think so. If you look at benchmarks between the 4300 (they don't have the 4100) and the 8320/50 there's a 2-3 fps difference.

If he overclocked the 4100 (which AMD chips are usually pretty good at) then it shouldn't be an issue.

More cores don't mean a lot in gaming at the moment.

There is actually quite a significant difference between the 4100 and 6300. The 41XX, 61XX and 81XX CPU's use the Bulldozer architecture, known for not so great performance compared to the newer Piledriver architecture used in the 43XX, 63XX and 83XX CPU's. 

 

To the OP; I would suggest directing most of your upgrade budget to the GPU. The FX-6300 would complement this upgrade really well, but first I would do some research first to see if the 6300 is even compatible with your motherboard. It may require a BIOS update and if it does work, I wouldn't try any overclocking with the 6300 on that board. Also I would advise against running an 83XX on that board.

But mantle is out soon also, but i don't know if i want to blow out all that money on a Graphics card yes its really good and everything else but would it be really needed?

Apparently the 4100 isn't that great, and the 4300 is just a better CPU. I figured they'd be comparable.

Either way you're seeing improvements. If you plan on staying AMD a while, then the CPU/GPU wouldn't hurt.
The 280x is better than the 770 GTX in most cases. Especially since they're decently priced in the UK unlike here.

Should be save then to run the 6300 but I would research to see if it can handle the 83XX. But like I said before, put the majority of your budget into the GPU. 

 

It's probably not worth upgrading to the 4300, but it would be justified to move up to the 6300, IMO. The 6300 only costs a little more and offers far better value per dollar.

remember your mobo only supports PCI-E gen 2 so you wont be seeing your gpu at full speed..

What Do You mean By this? , sorry i dont understand  i don't know everything about PC yet

No current GPU saturates PCI-E gen 2 yet anyways. It will run at full speed, provided the CPU can keep up.

Your motherboard may not handle an 8320. Should do some research and find out if other people have run them on the same board and see if they ran into any issues.

My motherboard can handle every AMD CPU as i have a AM3+ Chipset

Correct me if I'm wrong, but games won't utilize more than 6 cores. So the 6300 would be fine over the 8320.
