Should I upgrade?

Ok, so I have an i5-6400, A Dell OEM Z170 motherboard with minimal upgradability, a GTX 1070 FE and 24 GB of Ram. I want to upgrade the motherboard or CPU (Obviously a new motherboard with a new CPU) I do heavy gaming and usually run music, discord and a couple of other apps in the background. Sometimes I try to mod games but it doesn't turn out well or record videos so it's not a common occurrence. So, should I upgrade just my motherboard to a better board that's not Z170 or should I upgrade my CPU and if so which one. I like overclocking stuff because I love pushing things to the limits and I really don't know why but it's a semi-must have. Thanks in advance.

How much do used i7 6700 CPUs cost you?

first off what socket does your board have it might say on it if not download Cpu-z, or do you know if you have ddr3 or 4 if 3=1150 if 4=1151, if you have ddr4/socket 1151 it will be easy to upgrade

the upgradablity will come into effect with the socket as you can just get a new board, but if it is 1150 you will have to get a new cpu, motherboard, and ram to get the benefits of the newest parts

I have LGA 1151 and DDR4 Ram. This is something all 6th gen Intel CPU's have.

I have an i7 6700 and games run fine on my PC while other apps like Chrome and Discord run in the background. Unless you can get the 6700 for like $120 MAX, it's not worth it.

6th gen Intel CPUs support LPDDR3 RAM.
